We have the 2nd pick in our draft. Larry Johnson is going #1...that we know for sure. Of Shawn Alexander and LaDanian Tomlinson, which would you take.

I'm leaning towards SA because they play in a weak division. LT's got a tougher schedule, his O-line is banged up and has a rookie QB.

I guess I have more reasons not to pick someone than to pick someone.

Help...

I had the 2nd pick in my draft (LJ went #1) and I took LT. My feeling was SA lost the best guard in football (Steve Hutchinson) and got the big contract last year so that incentive is gone. Yes, LT has Rivers as his QB and a suspect line but I think you will get more receptions & yards with LT than SA (added points) and the rushing yards will be similar between the two. You really can't go wrong with either. (I guess I went with the wishy-washy politician answer.)

LT is with an untested QB that is my concern. I had the second and the first took Peyton I got LJ and 3rd took SA. Ladanian is a stud but if the offense stinks so does he

Agreed. I just think that LT's line is a bit worse.

I love the fact that LT catches a ton of balls...that is the huge plus to LT. I'm just not sure it outweighs the negatives.

I took Alexander 2nd in my draft after LJ went #1 for all the reasons against LT. I think the Seahawks honestly have one of the better teams in the NFC this year and could definitely make a return trip to the big game... contract year or no contract year, Alexander will be a big part of that.

I'd take Alexander over LT. If Rivers struggles at all, LT will have that much less room to run. SA is averaging 1600 yds and 20 tds a year, plus he always gets the ball in the red zone. He's never missed a game either.
Choosing between LT and SA is a nice problem to have.

That Madden curse is no joke.....

I wouldn't even take LJ #1 for the record. My top three would go like this:

1. LT
2. SA
3. LJ

I haven't seen Larry Johnson go a full season yet, and I wouldn't pick him because of that. And besides, LT is still the best overall RB in the NFL. He will run for 15-18 TDs, catch 2 or 3, and throw 2 or 3. Shaun Alexander isn't going to have 28 again. Last season was something extra special.

They are all great RBs, but that would be my order.

I agree. He had an unbelieveable finish to the year, but his entire line is new and has a new coach to boot. I'm not feeling LJ this year as well...

My top three would go like this:

That was mine as well, but I'm still leaning on SA a bit more. I know he won't have 28 touchdowns, but I'm betting it will be around 20.

LT just has too many unknowns right now...the good thing is that, like you said, all three will be great. It's just the degree of greatness we're debating. Thanks for the input Cody...greatly appreciated.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just an update...we took LT (thanks Cody). Our draft went like this:

LT
Carson Palmer
Brian Westbrook
Roy Williams
TB Defense
Andre Johnson
Chris Cooley (who we dropped after week 1 for Kellen Winslow )
Eddie Kennison (dropped for B. Berrian)
Fred Taylor
Reggie Brown
Jeff Wilkins
Ben Roethlislongname (dropped for Leftwich)
Dolphins Defense

We're sitting pretty good right now. I was sort of against the Westbrook pick in the 3rd because we wern't sure how much he was going to play and how healthy he was. Even though he's been banged up he has the highest point total in our league. Roy Williams and Andre Johnson have been great. Winslow is the #1 TE in our league and Wilkins is the #1 K. The weak point is our defense right now. I'm not thrilled with either. We've actually started the Dolphins the last couple weeks and done OK...but their offense sucks so bad that it's killing their D.

Still, we're tied for first in record and 2nd in total points...so things are looking good if our guys can stay healthy. We are thrilled to have Taylor as our 3rd RB (even with Drew taking some carries away). LT is past his bye so we'll only need him once more unless Westbrook goes down...

Boy, that Madden curse got Shaun Alexander already this year. And Larry Johnson hasn't been too impressive. LT was a great choice, as was Palmer in the second round.

As for my league I'm in, I'm currently in a tie for first as well (I have the most points though). Here is a summary of my starters if I can recall all of them.

QB- Donovan McNabb
RB- Clinton Portis (great when healthy)
RB- Cadillac Williams (Yikes)
WR- Joe Horn
WR- Andre Johnson
TE- Tony Gonzales
K- Jeff Brown from Seattle (I think that's his name)
Defense- Baltimore Ravens

I have Jamal Lewis on the bench at RB, and I might put him in for Cadillac. Donovan McNabb and the Ravens defense has carried me completely so far.

I am coming off a win against Indian Sensation which is really all that matters. If I win one game all year, I'll still be happy as long as that one win was against him.

Well, my dead last and winless team scored 109 points last week, and lost.

Starters:
QB: Byron Leftwich
RB: LT
RM: Willie Parker
WR: Roy Williams
WR: Keyshawn Johnson
TE: Ben Watson
K: Josh Brown
D: Seattle

Scrubs:
Jake Plummer
Javon Walker
Greg Jennings
Julius Jones
Marion Barber III
Laurence Maroney

I suppose I shouldn't cry to much since I am the TWO time defending champ in our league (its been a nice run) but it does leave a sour taste in my mouth to lose by one point. Add the Ryder Cup debacle and the Badgers losing to Michigan and it was a rough weekend.

    • Day 48. Got out at lunch to the range to hit some driver shots. Haven’t had much practice there. Focused on setup suggested by @iacas and found some very playable results. I did try to hit a couple of bunker shots after that with much less success 🙃
    • Got a rare birdie on #18 Par 5.  Drive was good and left me in range of the green.  I was @ 210 from the center and needed @ 180 to clear a hazard area.  Green had bunkers lest, right and on back. had been struggling and most shots were short so I took the 225 club figuring back of green hit well. i did hit it well, @ 229 per SS and dead on—kind at the pin.  Ended up @ 1 foot off the back in short rough and lucky for me it was a back pin placement.  Chipped about 15 feet leaving a 3 feet putt for par which I sunk.
    • Yea, so to clarify for me. I do not feel the clubface much in the swing. I feel the weight of the club. I can feel if I hit the club off the heel or toe. When I try to feel if the clubface is open or closed in the swing, I feel it more with my hands, and less of the clubhead. I would classify majority of my swings as not feeling like the clubface does much of all. It feels like I hold the clubface open. In the finish, it doesn't feel like my left hand faces the ground. It feels more like it faces the sky. I will try to be more aware of this, but it was just the sensation I got when I was making what felt like good swings. For the most part, I was hitting slight draws or slight pushes.  On this golf trip, I had to hit a low 8 iron around a tree to the green. I made an alignment adjustment, and actively try to roll my hands a bit more to get it to sling around the corner. I do have a habit of not adjusting how the clubface comes through impact, and I can still hit the ball straight-ish even moving the ball way back in my stance and trying to swing out more.  Yea, my feels are more hands and arms, less actually feeling the clubface.
