Callaway uPro and not Windows

I borrowed a friend's Callaway uPro, and I was going to try to load a course on it. The problem is that the only software I can find on the website is a Windows .exe file. However, for reasons I won't go into here, I switched my home computer to Ubuntu.

I can't seem to find anything about it on their website, but I know there are quite a few GPS users on these forums, and many Mac users, so I'm hoping someone knows something. Short of setting up a dual boot at home, or attempting to use the software with Wine, does anyone know of any ways to load courses onto the uPro from a computer that isn't running Windows?

As an alternative, I can use the Windows at my office computer, and load from there, so it's not the end of the world if no one can help me. Thanks in advance.

According to the uPro website ( link ), it is compatable with Mac OS 10.4 or newer. Also, it says that you don't need to install any additional software or drivers. Have you tried just plugging the uPro into your Mac?

just a question...would it take longer to wait for responses than it would take to just do it on your work computer...?

Don't know specifically, but google searches come up pretty empty. From my experience with vaguely similar electronics, I think the answer is likely to be no. You could try plugging it in and see whether it shows up under linux at all---if it happens to mount as a USB storage device, then maybe you could figure out how things are laid out and work it that way. That's how iPods and similar devices work, so there's some hope, but I think that's a touch unlikely. Your best bet is probably Wine. That sort of application tends to work pretty well under emulation and IIRC Wine is dead easy to set up under Ubuntu these days.

Greetings from another Unix/Linux person. You could try using Wine as you mentioned, but it is pretty hit/miss with Windows apps from my experience. If the application is older, then you have a more likely chance of getting it to work properly but it is worth giving it a shot. I've been successful getting it to work with some legacy apps. Probably the VM approach would likely work better, but then you still need a copy of Windows, which may defeat the purpose for you based upon your original post.

Unfortunately the world doesn't recognize us Unix folks as being of a large enough market size to make it worthwhile to port apps to our platforms.
