What to look for in a fairway wood? anything specific?
I just need a 3 wood for those short par 4s that are stupid to hit driver on

What to look for??? how abt a 4 wood, seriously, I found I hit a 4 wood far better than a 3 wood and have virtually no impact on distance. Find something that appeals to your eye, with the right shaft for you. I gamed a Callaway FT 4 wood for a couple of years and loved it, needed to do some retail therapy recently and purchased a Mizuno MP 630 4 wood, now this I like, never felt more confident with a club before in my life. It sleeps on a little mat on the floor next to my bed :))

well i just meant was there any company that had a leg up on the other or are they like most other clubs where its just prefernce and feel that matters

Most woods are the same.
I've got steel shafts in my woods, the ball fly's low and only goes a little shorter than my driver.

Why not hit a 3i off the tee on the short par 4's?
It'll be more accurate than a wood.

I just got a new (to me) 3-wood. Basically, I wanted something that was good out of the fairway, rough, and off the tee. On top of this, I looked for a little forgiveness and workability (left-right and right-left). If you just want a 3 wood that is good off the tee - one that acts as a second driver - look for something with a bigger head. Taylor Made and Callaway fit the bill on this one. If you want a good overall 3-wood, something with a little lower profile like PINGs or Clevelands might work out. Just hit a bunch of woods, and see which one you like the most. Major brands are all pretty much equal in quality, so you'll be happy with whatever you get.

For me titleist 909 F3 woods are the best or taylormade superfast woods!

I have a Ping TiSi Tec 12 degree strong 3 that I really like because of the distance it gives me. Lately though, I've been playing a Ping G2 14 degree 3 wood that I picked up for a song on Ebay. Distance-wise it is about the same as the strong 3 but my ball flight is much straighter and slightly higher.

Ping fairway woods are always a safe buy, and hold their value well. The G10 and G15 have a lower profile face, but the G5 range is cheaper, and has a deeper face, with a sharper leading edge. I prefer a sharper leading edge, so i got the g5. It may be because i don't sweep with a fairway wood like i should, and the deeper face keeps me from skying i guess.

I am hitting 3 iron right now but on some holes it leaves me like 250 yadrs short on the longer ones
Some of the par4s its just stupid to hit driver

I definitely like my Titleist 909F3. Previously i was using a Callaway X-Tour fairway wood, which is also a great club.

If you're looking to save some money, you can find Callaway X-Tour FW's around for very cheap. Small head profile, face isn't too deep, great club overall.
If you can spend some extra bucks, you can't go wrong with the Titleist 909F3.

There was someone selling a dymo head for like 60 bucks i was thinking of getting a used pull out shaft and if i get the head for like 40 bucks and find a pull out shaft for like 20 that would be sweet if i could get the weight right

I would honestly go with a hybrid over a wood, as I cant hit mine worth a damn. Alright, that was a lie. But I like the feel of my hybrids hella lot better then I do the three wood.

I have the opposite problem. I hit a fairway wood extremely well but I can't hit a hybrid to save my life. Go figure.

Hey man, to each his own. I even have days where I cant hit my long irons but can hit my hybrids, or vice versa.

a 3 wood fits into my set a lot more since i hit my 3 iron fine. There are some hazards and par 4s i'd like to hit 3 wood with instead of 3 iron or a layup

For most golfers a 15* 3W is really hard to hit well compared to a 460 cc driver from the tee. The 909 F3 is mentioned several times, and of course it you hit it well it goes out whole the way ......, but is has a very compact head. In earlier day a 5W would be about 20*-22*, but today it is normally about 18* and much easier to hit than a 3W (actually more a 4W). The current 4W 18* is equal in distance to about a hybrid 1 or 2 or an iron 1

I currently am using a Callaway FT-IZ 5W, but if possible you might like to look for Callaway X, which are very nice ones at low prices today.

I am also not fond of the hybrids, as for the stronger players, most of these things, hook sometimes.......
