Im fairly new to golf, only started playing a month ago. So I get a lot of tips from other golfers, and a lot of them tell me its smart to get really good with all the irons. However all who tell me this are like almost never using their irons! I see them mostly using woods and some hybrid + wedges.

If I got it right you hit more accurate with irons and they are more forgiving than woods. But you dont hit that far as woods, or am I wrong? Should I focus getting really good with irons, or buy me some hybrids and woods? *Confused*

You should focus on getting good with all of your clubs.

For beginners, I would recommend working on your 3-wood and 7-PW. Put away the driver and long irons.

Hybrid clubs are great and can really help w/ long shots...especially long par threes. They're much easier to hit than a 3 or 4-iron.

IMO- you should spend more time practicing chipping and pitching around the green than anything else.

A lot of courses have short game practice areas. A 1/2 hour a few times a week there will help your game more than anything you could do at the range.

Great response, knock-down. Work on developing your swing, concentrate on the fundamentals of your short game and, then, after a little time, you'll have a better idea about which clubs you are most comfortable hitting. Then, you can start experimenting with different clubs to put together the best mix of clubs for your game. Good luck.

Agree completely. Instead of focusing on woods versus irons, focus on developing a consistent, repeatable, swing that works well for all of your golf clubs.

Thanks for the response I have been practising a lot on my short game, and I feel pretty confident when im around and on the green. Also, im pretty confident with all of the irons, even my 4i which is my lowest club in the bag. I "never" miss a shot from the tee anymore, altho I need more practise hitting it from the fairway.

Iv done pretty much as you've explained, working my way through all the clubs. Im just wondering if I either should keep focusing on using irons, or should I get 3 and 5 wood + maybe a hybrid and start practising and adding those to my game aswell?

Dont know if I will have full use of them, *or* if I dont get started on them it will slow down my progression. Like, will I 'miss out' by only using my irons? Will I be hitting too short? ect.

Thanks in advance
