Totally awesome! I'm out here playing in a tournament with some members of my club. We're playing against about 80 other teams from clubs owned by the same company. Wow! again. We played the Crenshaw course today, the Foothills tomorrow, then the Canyons on Saturday. Austin is so gorgeous. Green rolling hills. Super mega mansions spotted throughout that look like they spring up out of it all. This place is something else. The Crenshaw was a really fun golf course with some slick and bendy greens. We managed alright, and finished at -9. We were penalized at the end of the round after a scoring mistake. Two strokes. Really depressing. At -11 (60) we were only one off the lead. The rest of the team took it a lot better than I thought they would. Our team is really super strong, we were at that -11 number and missed two make-able eagle putts. We are firing on all cylinders and I don't see that stopping. None of us do. Thankfully we've all seemed to dust that issue off and we're ready to DESTROY the next two days!

Just got back from a trip to Barton. Played the three courses that you did. They were all great. However, we all preferred the Fazio courses to the Crenshaw. The greens on the Crenshaw course were insane and borderline unfair. What I couldn't figure out is why the slope was much lower 121 (tips) then the two Fazio courses which were pushing 140.

Anyways, the Fazio Canyon course is ranked among the best in Texas all around and #1 resort. It was absolutely gorgeous and immaculate. Deer everywhere, cliffs, great views, perfect greens, huge drops. I'd go back in a heartbeat. The resort was beautiful and the staff was friendly but not super sharp. Overall, I'm not complaining though. Great trip.

p.s. They have a 4th (Palmer Lakeside) course that is 30 minutes away. We did not play due to time constraints.

Resort is beautiful

Very friendly people

Comfortable rooms

Great breakfast bufffet

Expensive.

Played 3 courses. They are visually different but very interesting and beautiful

Canyons. Great scenery. No houses. Back nine are challenging but fun

Foothills: My favorite. Lots of different elevations, many holes along the actual Barton Creek

Crenshaw: More open. Easiest. totally different visually to the other two. More Texas look with lots of trees and waste areas

Greens were slow (for me). Coming from fast greens in Fl. it was frustrating how many putts ended WAY short.

Pace of play 4-4.5hrs

Lots of corporate outings.

Probably better to go Sun-Thursday since most outings seem to be at the end of the week.

The last day, (Sunday), my wife and I had the first T-time of the morning. Played by ourselves in 3.5 hrs

Noticed that a majority of the players were in the younger age groups 35-50yrs. vs. other places you go and they are mostly over 65

A local suggested Perry's Rest downtown for their famous pork shop. I am not a fan of pork shops but that is one of the most incredible things I've ever had in my life. Very highly recommended.

Would love to go again (although $$$)

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
