Its hard for me to join a club/course because me and my friends like to play different courses. I would be afraid that I wouldn't get my money out of it if I joined a club.

of the poeple i have talked to virtually none of them have felt this wat. i know many guys who had the same concern...a club membership / home course is like a relationship...there is more to it then just the course. it is the mind, the social life, competition. you can always go out and play other places, i would say approx. 20 percent of my rounds are on other courses.

I would agree with the response of Lefty Golfer. There is so much more than just the actual golf that makes joining a club wonderful. I joined the club where I live in June and have not looked back in regret. The club I joined has a very active mens and ladies group. They run tournaments every month and we have a group that goes out on Thursday twilight and play for a little extra incentive each week. During the week you can decide at the last minute and walk on without an issue and the weekends are not packed like you would see at your local public course. I can count the amount of 4+ hour rounds on one hand with fingers left over.

There are also so many social activities as well. Our club has a beautiful practice facility, a very nice tennis center with pro shop, and two pools with one of them being an adults only pool. This year I will be able to buy the "unlimited golf cart" and my goal is to play 100 rounds at this facility. If I need to change of scenery a bit I will jump on to a local course or maybe choose a different tee box to change it up.

100% agree.

I joined my club in January this year and quit in March. I wanted to play every course in Jacksonville before I decided on the one I liked. For the price and location of my current club it was unbeatable. I have since rejoined in August and love every aspect of it. There is a steady group of 15-20 guys who play every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. 10 MGA tournaments each year and the Club Stroke and Match Play championship. There is always a money game going on so you always have to be playing your best or it could cost you. I love it.

I have never been tempted to join a club in this area as I am only here for the Winter months.  All the clubs I have considered have "monthly minimums" and only being here 6-7 months  a year coupled with the fact that there are many great public courses in the metro area here it just doesn't make sense for me.  Having said that I do belong to a club at the Summer address simply because the nearest public facility is 20 miles away.  I enjoy the membership and there are certainly some benefits associated with private club membership.   But because golf is only possible for 6-7 months a year there, the club is only open April - October.  There is an annual dues after the one time membership buy in, but after that you only pay for what you use.  So  if you intend go golf much it is a better economic decision to belong to a private club in this location in lieu of driving 40 miles to play the public facility.

Well I live on a private 9 hole but play most of my rounds at a very nice course about a half hour away. Stopped by today to hit some range balls. Inquired in the pro shop about membership to the club. They had a deal going on I just couldn't pass up, so I joined. Any of you Sacramento area golfers looking for a deal on membership should check out turkey creek. I am looking forward to finally establishing my index / handicap and playing in some tourneys. B-)

When a company makes a club in the USA I will proudly display their brand here. All of mine were made in china by somebody making $2 a day. Shame on you Mr club manufacture.

I agree 100% also and is the biggest reasons why I joined my club.  The other reasons where proximity to work ( 5 minutes), my house (15 minutes), amazing practice facility / driving range, and lastly, the camaraderie of many wonderful people.  That is something that you absolutely do not get at most (not all but most) public courses.  And if you want to play other courses, you can still absolutely do so here and there.
