Let me start off with saying, I've never hit a pair of Mizuno irons before, I just came off a set of Cobra FP's I picked up as my third set, and NEVER got fitted for them. I just got fitted for these Mizunos and they felt better than anything I've ever hit before. The ball was coming off FAST off my swing, and it felt like I was getting more distance out of them. Does anyone have this set? I know it's fairly new, but let me know personally your thoughts, and if I should've saved the $100 and gotten a pair of MX-300's.

If you have already been fitted for these and have them ordered, why look back. The JPX 800 are the newest Miz in that class and all reports are favorable.  I have not hit either (just got my MP-63s yesterday), but would think you got a great set of clubs.

(BTW, just curious - did you only get 2 clubs? )

I wouldn't stress over $100, both great sets of irons.

Believe it or not, the guys at GolfSmith were NOT willing to do the fitting in the MX-300 anymore (don't ask me why), probably just sales tactics, but when I got fitted for these and saw that I was hitting the completely wrong club for my swing, I didn't care how much I spent. I'm getting serious about my golf game and hopefully I see a change for the better now!!!

AT Ronbo25...I hope to get more than 2 for what I paid!!! HAha!!

Thats weird that golfsmith wouldn't try to sell you their leftovers from last year.  Total opposite from when i went to pro golf discount a few months back.  I tried out both and it was quite similar, so the salesman was basically telling me to save my money and buy last years' mx300's as its pretty much the same club without the graphics...and he said if it was him, he'd buy the mx300 as it is forged as opposed to a cast club in the new jpx800.

Hes not lying

To me the Mx300 felt just as good if not better

And the launch monitor thought so as well

I am a solid 20 HC though never measured.  I play with burner Plus Irons that I kind of hate.  I can hit them but they are clacky unless you exactly dead center but still give you 2/3rds your distance.  I hit the 800 pros at the Seattle golf  show and fell in love.  The feel is amazing.  I don't care if they will make me worse in the short term.  I'll figure it out and start cracking on 'em!

I'm in the same boat, I hit the JPX-800 pros several times and they felt really good.

I just picked up a used set yesterday, spent $250 after trading in my current irons.

Other than the grips (tour wraps) they are ready to go and I can't wait to hit them.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I'm planning to drive an hour and a half this coming weekend for a Mizuno demo day so that I can hit the JPX-800's (not the pro's).  It'll be on a monitor but I'm scheduled for a fitting at the Taylormade Performance Lab in Orlando in about a month and I have the JPX-800's and Burner 2.0's in my top 3 of clubs I'd like to consider.

I went to the Mizuno demo day yesterday. I loved the look of both the standard and pro's.  I went thru the shaft optimizer fitting and came out with a shaft recommendation for the Dynalite XP S300 and the Project X (not sure which model) if I recall correctly. However, I didn't pull the string on an order because the combination of the winter rust and me not being entirely comfortable gripping the clubs.  While the rep had many combo's in added shaft length, lie angle, etc. for you to try, the grips were understandably all regular, and I play midsized with an extra layer of wrap underneath.  Combine that with the new grip I started working on in my lessons the couple weeks and it was just tough to fully fall in love.  Hopefully, I'll get a chance to hit this outside and see a real ball flight in the next month.

Yes, I went to the range, and they feel great, nothing wrong with them. Hit my 7 iron 160-165!!! (150-155 with old Cobras). Distance is great, but forgiveness is even better!! Now, I can't wait to hit them off fresh cut grass and not off ice cold hard range mats.

I originally hit the JPX800 and was hooked. I am a 20 handicap so the JPX800 was a fit numbers-wise. Interestingly enough, during my fitting, the Mizuno rep suggested I consider the PRO's as I play 2-3 times per week and am committed to getting better. He told me there will be a "learning curve" and I'll grow into them and will actually benefit over time. Never having or knowing about what a forged club does and nothing with the word "PRO" in it and knowing the handicap-rating ceiling was 16 I was kinda nervous about it.

After 2 rounds I can hit the PRO's pretty well. They don't have the distance on less-than-perfect hits but, they feel more "accurate?" and don't sting your hands on a thin hit. I had the '09 Burners and could hit them a country mile but often miss the intended target. The JPX800PRO's kinda "go where you want them to" if that makes sense??? Also, I changed up the shafts to a KBS stiff from a regular flex DG. I noticed the ball flies at a lower trajectory almost right at the target. I kinda like it as opposed to the high ball flight I had before.

Until I become more familiar with the clubs, I'm choosing a club higher on the short grass and a club lower in the thick grass when hitting. It seems to be working.

I look forward to getting used to these as I feel they will definitely help me get better :-)

Today I was practicing on a monitor where I get my lessons and I saw a Burner iron laying nearby so I took a few swings.  I can't say it felt better but it certainly felt lighter than the Mizuno's, so looking at the club I noticed this particular burner iron had a steel shaft that weighed 85g.  The Mizuno Optimizer suggested the Dynalite Gold XP for me - and which I used in my demo - which weighed 117g.

From the numbers, I wasn't swinging the burner any faster than the Mizuno's but it felt like an easier swing ,and I believe more accurate.  Looking at Mizuno's custom shaft options, I didn't see any steel irons anywhere near 85g.   Is there an explanation why the Taylormade burner steel shafts (RE * AX 85) are so much lighter?

Also, I'd like to know whether there's any steel options outside of what Mizuno had on their custom shaft list closer to 85g in weight?

Some people have reported that TaylorMade Reax driver shafts that say 60 gram on them actually weigh more than 60 gram.  I'm curious if anyone has pulled a "reax 85" and weighed it to find out what it weighs.  A look at some other shafts shows the numbers don't always match:  True Temper's GS75 weighs 86,  GS85 weighs 92, GS95 weighs 101, KBS Tour 90 weighs 101, etc.
