So,

I am an 8 handicap and have a 909 DComp driver. I have had it for 2 years and got it when I was like a 15 handicap. It is cut down half an inch and regular flex with 10.5 loft. Last year I was hitting about 230 with 210 carry and this year I am in the 230-250 carry range and hit about 240-260. I demoed a 910D2 yesterday with aldila RIP stiff flex 9.5 loft. I hit it roughly 15-20 yards farther than my driver now. I have a very nice trajectory with it and seem to be much more accurate with it. I am just wondering if this is probably the right club for me? I dont care for like all the adjusting crap to the nozzle to make you draw or fade and what not but if they are there I would maybe adjust loft only if I got this driver. I am wondering if I should just reshaft my club with longer stiff flex or go trade it in for a 910. My driver seems to have a higher trajectory and a lot less roll.

What do you reccomend?

Thanks

Why not try out a new shaft that will have less loft this way it off sets what you are doing and you get best of both worlds. Kind of a new driver same reliable head but different flex and shaft and grip.

Im confused, so i get a certain shaft that gives the head less loft? Would there be much difference in a 910 D2 and a 909DComp if they have same shaft length, shaft and loft?

Because I know I need 9.5 loft and S flex, just don't know if I should get 910D2 or like a 909D2. I was hitting the 910D2 amazingly well yesterday but I dont know if that is how I would hit a 909D2. Is this years driver really that much better than 2 yrs ago? Like I said, I could care less about adjusting the driver for a fade or draw and what not but the companies want you to think this years driver is 20 yards longer than last years.

I am hearing longer lighter shafts is the reason for the longer distance.

Yes, the driver I hit yesterday was much more accurate and average 15-20 yards longer. it carried about 5 yards longer and rolled 10 yards longer because of the decrease in loft. I swing up with 9.5 driver to get good carry and good roll. The 10.5 seems to hold its line upward better than the 9.5 which has a rounder trajectory, but it carries a little farther and goes a lot farther.

My driver was perfect for me last year and the year before but all of the sudden I played yesterday and I can now drive 4 or the 5 par 5's in two (the one I cant drive in two is 545 yards)

Does anyone think the head alone on the 910 D2 would be deeper than the 909D2? Because if I could find a good left over 909D2 I would get it unless you think the 910 is a completely new, better driver.

It's not.  It's a good driver, just like the 909.

I went to a golf store with a launch monitor and tried various shafts in the 910D2. First I hit it with the 9.5 aldila RIP and it kept saying I was pushing it which is wierd from just coming two days ago hitting like a 5 yard draw straight almost everytime. The screen showed with each shaft and even my driver the same thing right fade, and I think it was because i couldn't really see where i was supposed to hit it. It said my launch angle with the Aldila was like 14.2 and my club head speed was 100 mph average, I was getting spin around 2200-2600 and my average distance was about 270 yards.  which seems a little long. I hit it about 10 yards farther than my Dcomp into the launch moniter. This seems a little bit wierd because I wasn't at all hitting the same driver head with the same shaft standard on the course like I was using a shaft too stiff. I was getting trajectory right where i wanted it and ball flight just like I wanted it with a slight draw.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
