Sorry if I needed anything else in this thread, the rules thread is not working for some reason.

Well here is my swing with a 7 iron, was just using practice balls but I am going to video my swing at the range tomorrow probably. I know my swing is not very good but are there any glaring flaws that jump out at you when you watch this? I plan on getting another lesson at golf galaxy soon, the first one I got was very good.

Anyone know what I could use to slow this down? I can watch it in slow motion on my PC but I want to be able to upload it.

watch this:

then this:

then this:

then go to the range and try to incorporate the proper grip, ball position, and arm downswing motion. not trying to pass you off at all, but i figure advice from one of the best teachers in n. america can do a better job of explaining things than i can.

Thank you! These videos are great.

And you cant really give advice when I am doing so many things wrong .  I am going to put these on my phone and bring them to the range with me, I noticed quite a few things I really need to work on.

good luck. it'll be a lot of work, but it's worth it. just keep reposting your swing vids periodically when you've made substantial improvements and as you know people will give you their opinion on stuff you should work on. hit 'em straight.

One thing I think is essential to a good swing is a good foundation and a good "loading" of the hips.  Make sure that as you come back into your backswing, you shift your weight to your back hip and as you come through the ball you naturally let your weight transfer through the ball.  This is where you get alot of power from.  Judging by your video, your swing is primarily arms.

The "loading" of your hips should never feel like a conscious effort, but rather come as the byproduct of an even and controlled backswing, just as the followthrough should be the natural weight transfer as you swing and contact the ball.

Remember, a golf swing isn't something that needs to be forceful, fast, or 'noisy'.  A smooth and "effortless" swing is what you are shooting for.

I would suggest you watch the videos above, watch a pro on TV with good mechanics--someone like Ernie Els or Fred Couples are my favorites--and practice.

Best of luck!

That is how my swing feels too and I know it is not right.  I think I might actually be shifting my weight somewhat forward in the back swing.

I have a question about this guys swing,  I noticed right before he starts his swing he kind of moves forward a bit.  I then went and compared his swing to a few tour players and could not really find any that do this.  What do you guys think about that? I know he said to do it in another video but I cant find it.

Skip to 3:45 in the video.

It's just something he's adapted or started doing long ago I would think. Sort of like a move to get his swing started to keep the rhythm. If it works for someone, why not, but it's not something I would advice people to work on. I'd say it's in the same area as a waggle.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

vijay does it, jack did it, arnie did it, sam did it, lee did it, and many others though it is more subtle. if you don't like it aesthetically you don't have to do it, i don't. but it does help tremendously with your rhythm to practice it until you get your swing down good. my stance is different from his as well, but i take the essence of what he is teaching and apply it to my game. it's really helped a lot.

Went to the range the past two days after watching a lot of his videos.  I feel like I am getting my hips more involved in the swing, it feels a lot better when I hit it.  Had a pretty good day at the range today after a terrible one yesterday so I think I am getting use to it.

Does this video look any better? I know I still have a lot to work on.

a couple things... with your right or top hand of your grip, it should be more overlapped with your left hand. grab a ruler and grip it with both hands like you would a golf club, this is how it should be. if your right hand is too strong on the club, it can and will cause you to hit pulls.

another thing is your hips are sliding backwards a bit in your back swing. the only thing they should do is turn, while still keeping your posture and your head steady over or slightly behind the ball. here's another video which explains what i mean:

and another:

your swing does look quite a bit better though, especially your downswing. it looks really good.

the palm of your right hand should sit atop your left thumb, essentially your palms should face each other directly. the best way to learn the feel is to take a ruler and grip it like you would your club. also, you need to lift the club more in the backswing, as of now you're just tilting, and 99 times out of 99 that will make you come over the top. once your club is parallel to the ground in the backswing, you hands should lift the club up above your shoulder.

btw... you should try hitting some balls next time you post a swing.

Are you talking about how I kind of tilted the club kind of backwards during my back swing? Just want to make sure I understand you correctly but it makes sense. As for the grip I was just going over Ben Hogans book and I think I have a better understanding of what I need to do.

And yeah I have been trying to film my swing at the range but the grass section is still closed and I don't have enough room for my camera on the mats.

Thanks again for the comments!
