In this video, he states that good golfers have divots which point to the left of the target when they hit good shots... "even a draw". Is this correct?  Put together with the "ball flight laws", it makes no sense to me.  The only way this could be correct is if they were hitting the ball with an open club face slightly?

I just want to know what my perfect divot should look like.

EDIT: After watching again, he does have the correct view on the ball flight laws.  But even he says the ball is gone before the club is "turning" left, so wouldn't the divot be over by then also?

The ball is gone but on a good solid strike, the divot starts after impact, and with the path that McLean is talking about being inside-square-inside, the divot will mirror the path of the swing, meaning it will work slightly left.

yes... when i want to hit a straight shot, i feel as though i'm swinging from outside in, and there is a fine line between a great strike directly on the back of the ball and an outside in hit. but at the very worst(given a sound grip) it will produce a very accurate pull slice.

edit... to me, a good way to think about it is to forget about the path your hands make and think about it in terms of the clubhead path, because the two are very distinct. a lot of people make the mistake of thinking that the clubhead is gonna mirror what their hands do, which is not the case.

I stopped worrying about the divot direction, i just pay attention to the look of it. Is the toe end deeper, or is the heel end deeper. How big is it, nice size or chunky.

Your divots can be slightly left and the path, at impact, still slightly right.

But, rather than looking at the divots, just watch the ball flight (and consider any gear effect if you toe it or heel it).
