ping vs taylormade

If you ever plan on selling them the Pings will hold their value much better.

A couple of years back, I thought that the Ping i10 irons were the ones I wanted. But the i10s lost out in competition quickly - not much feel, and a bit difficult to hit.

After I got some Callaways, the i15 model came out. In test hits, the i15s delivered everything that was missing from the i10s. I sensed I could play OK with i15s as long as they had the right shaft.

In comparison, a Ping rep at a January golf expo said the G15 was the way to go. He said he had fitted everyone from single-digits to 20 HDCPs with the G15, the trick was to vary the shaft according to ability. And, the i15 model is no longer carried in the main Ping catalog.

Have no preference one way or the other for TM irons. I tend to avoid them because of their overly strong lofts. I don't seek a 7 iron that goes 180 yards. Comparing Ping to TM (data from both mfg sites):

See if you can do a side-by-side comparison on launch monitor, and outdoors too if possible. Then make the call. Again, make sure you have a shaft that's good for you.

Correction: i15 line does appear in current Ping catalog.

I bought a set of TM Burner 2.0's several months ago after hitting 6-7 different brands and bought them just because they were longer than any of the others I tried. I didn't know until afterwards that the lofts were stronger. I played them for a couple of months and never really got comfortable with them. Having to guess/re-learn how far I hit each club, compared to what I was used to, was a lot more of a challenge than what you would think. The 2.0's were off the rack, which is all I have every played with, but I traded them and was fitted for a set of Ping i15's. In fact I got a mixed set of irons, 7-gap wedge are i15's and 4-6 iron are G15's. Best move I ever made, love the Pings.

BTW, the black finish on the 2.0's is horrible. After only having them for a couple of months they looked like $hit.

Not sure if you have looked at many of the specs on the newer clubs, but they are very similar now. Many of them are going with the stronger loft. From what I seen, most of the 7-PW are the same or 1 degree difference in loft. Now the TM's are a little stronger than most with the 4,5, and 6 irons. I currently play the TM 1.0's and they are a little longer than my Cleveland TA3's. But the TM long irons are alot easier to hit than the TA3's. But the TM 1.0's are a helluva lot more forgiving as compared to my TA3's. Compare the newer Callaway RAZR and Mizuno JPX to the TM, You will not see much difference.

Go Ping.  Only for the fact that 1 out of 2 people I see on the course have Taylormade golf bags and clubs.  Even the 12 year old kids with their golf bags on their backs say Taylormade.  It's a conspiracy I tell ya!

Both are great clubs.  Go to the range, try them both and buy whatever you like best.

i thought it would be worth noting that i've had a completely different experience with TM Burner 2.0's, and as of right now, wouldn't think about picking up a different set. i've also had a different experience with the durability of the finish. i don't know how long i've had mine, but i know they've hit at least a few thousand range balls and played 30+ rounds since i've purchased them. the only club that the finish has worn a bit is my AW (there's one particular fairway bunker at my home course that i'm always in).

To the OP I'd say hit 'em all and go with whichever one feels best.  They are all good clubs and you really can't go wrong with any of them.

From what I've noticed, sets that are more "GI" have the more jacked up lofts while "players" clubs tend to have more "traditional" lofts... While the Burners have a 45 deg pitching wedge, my MCs have a 47 degree... you'll see that with most other manufacturers too, i.e. Mizuno's JPX line have the 44 PW while their MP line has a 47.

if you are looking for durability then PING is the way to go. They make the best clubs, so well constructed, I have never had a single problem with PING.

the i15's are going to be more playable, but if you have a 15 handicap id get the burners, theyre going to be easier to hit, but you wont be able to work the ball as well
