Tommy Armour Tour balls

I saw these at my Sports Authority for $14.95/dozen.  They feel pretty soft..i.e. ProV1-ish..seems like a great deal.. Anybody heard or these?  or play them..

I've played old school Tommy Armour balls. Softer than a Molitor and almost as long as a StarFlite.

I received 2 packs of these for Christmas from my in-laws.  Tommy Armour 845 Tour and Tour Spin (currently on Sports Authority for $20 for 2-dozen ).  I'm debating whether to try them out or stick with my normal ball (Nike One Tour or One Tour D).  I'm reviving this thread to see if anyone has any insight and feedback into these balls?

Why the debate? Just hit them for a round then either move on or make them a low cost alternative for practice rounds.

Yes, please let us know how they feel..are they soft..i.e. ProV feel?

Hi, i've been playing the Tommy Armour 4 layer DLT's for the past 6 months with great success.  Just like everyone else, I was a bit skeptical to playing these balls as I have been playing pro v1x.   Here's my story.  Played in memphis and lost my ball.  While searching for my ball, I picked up a Tommy Armour Tour ball (3 layer) .  Played the ball for the rest of the round with great success.

When I returned back home, I researched and tried to find the balls.  None of the regular sources had it, but eventually found them a sport authority.  The 4 layer DLT's were on sale for $12 for dussin.   Too cheap to skip for a 4 layers, so I bought 10 cases.   Same price as 3 pro v1.

Here is my experience when compared to pro v1x.  ( i am 7 handicap. 250 drives and thus rely on my short and iron game for success. Titliest D3 woods and mizuno mp 69 irons)

- The DLT goes further

- The DLT is straighter

- The DLT is not as soft, but you can definitely get it to stop

- The DLT is goes well off the irons with excellent spin

Only area where there are issues is the very short game - inside of 15 yards. It is definitely hard to create the spin that you can achieve with pro v1x from this distances around the greens.

in short, if i am playing a very important game I will use the pro v1x.  For every day play, outings, games with guys, and so,  the Tommy is in my bag.

Another noteworthy comment is that NO one will ever claim your ball so you'll always find it.

Good luck and definitely pick up a box if you can find it.  Regular price is around 36, so get them while on sale.

Tommy makes the best balls per buck! Goes long, feel soft and freaking cheap compare to any other golf balls. I have over 150balls of tommy. I stacked it up when it was on sale.

I just picked up 2 dozen on sale from Sports Authority for $4.99 per dozen.  Haven't had a chance to play them yet though.

I'm a 68 year old lefty with an 80 mph swing speed.  My bag is a complete set of Wilson Staff Di9 irons ranging from 5 iron through SW, including the A & G wedges.  For driver I have the Wilson Staff Superlight 10.5 with a RL shaft.  For the fairway I have the Fybrid RS in a 15* 3 & 18* 5 and the Fybrid 21* 3h; all with regular shafts.

I've been playing the 3 piece Tommy Armour 845 Tour Feel for the past year and have found them to be an awesome ball for me and especially for the money.  I would rank their feel and preformance somewhere between the Titleist NXT Tour S and the Bridgestone E6 with a feel somewhere between the DT Solo and Noodle's Long and Soft; all of which play.

The TA 854 Tour Feel ball is a great ball for duffers like me with a 80 swing speed... The contact sensation I get from the TA 845 Tour Feel ball when I smack it with any of my clubs, from driver to putter, brings a smile to my face as the report tells me instantly if I hit the ball square.

My drive airs out about 180 - 190 yds. on average with a normal roll out of about 15 to 20 yards.  A major item of importance to me in my golf game and one of the many things I really like about the 845's is they fly straight for me.  I have a "Baby" fade that is controllable with them.  Very seldom do I have to go off the fairway looking for one of these balls and when I do it is usually because I pulled the ball; hitting it dead straight down the right field line.  Don't even know what a hook is except for fishing :-) .

Being the short hitter that I am and knowing any Par 4 over 380 yds. is most likely going to be at lease a par 5 for me I like a ball that has some roll out, which the Tour Feel does.  But, by the same token for the Par 3's and my 'Short" game I don't have a problem is stopping the ball pretty close to where it lands....the biggest factor for roll out is how high I it the ball to start with and getting the 845's airborne isn't a problem and I'm not a high ball hitter.

For putting; i've read other comments about a ball feeling like "Butter" so I will use that terminology too; as that pretty well describes the fell for me.  I only have two regrets when it comes to the TA 845 Tour Feel ball and they are: it doesn't come in yellow and it has been discontinued by Sports Authority, who owns the brand.... just glad I bought out their inventory the last time I was in Sarasota, FL.

Great review. A lot of golfers only go for the big name brands but there are lots of good & inexpensive products out there.

I play the Wilson Staff Zip golf balls and they perform well for me.

These balls SUCKS. First time out! I crack two balls by the 3rd hole, so i went back to Pro V1s. Thinking that they might have been defective it didn't bother me.

A week later, i went through 3 sleeves of the 845 tour balls right of the TEE.  WTF? I was able to get refunded and exchange them for another brand and have told the retailer to pull them off the shelf.

I have hit some really shitty balls in the last 25 yrs of golf and have maybe cracked one.
