I'm thinking about getting the Spinner shafts for my wedges for Christmas. Anyone use them? I mostly want them so they match the width the of my Project X shafts. The project X shafts I have in my irons are 5.0. Should I go with a 5.0 or 5.5 for my wedges?

Thanks,

Zack

I've heard it does produce more spin and has a "softer" feel.  Lots of positive feedback.  I'd stay with the 5.0, never go more stiff in the wedges.

Do you mind if I ask why you say to never go more stiff in the Wedges? My wedge shafts are stiffer than my iron shafts for a specific reason but that is my preference.

Swing speed is slower for shots around the green.  Rarely hit "full" shots with your sand/lob

"Never" may not have been the best wording because, some people go stiffer in wedges it gives tighter dispersion and they like the feel.

Many people go same stiffness to preserve the feel throughout the set.  Some people go softer shaft in wedges because you don't hit them full very often and stiffer shafts may feel like a mishit. but if you go with heavier swing weights in wedges it will load the shaft better so you can go with the same stiffness.  1 SW point = 1 CPM

I use a technique similar to this motion so I like a "softer" feel, helps with the float loading feel

First of all, there's two shafts in the Spinner family:

  • Rifle Spinner Wedge (Royal Precision). "Developed for PGA Tour players who like a softer feel in their sccoring irons which are used primarily for less-than-full shots."
  • DG Spinner Wedge (TT). "Designed with a revolutionary 3" section below the grip that creates an optimum bending point for increased spin and lower launch angle." (Both quotes from Shaft section of 2011 GolfWorks catalog.)

Comments from players and club fitters on the DG Spinners tend to agree with mvmac :

As for your Project X, you don't say if they're flighted or not. Flighted shafts lower the launch angle slightly on higher lofted clubs.

I haven't tried the Rifles but here's my take on the DG Spinners.  Short version being, I really like them and I've since completely the conversion on my 62deg.

Thanks everyone for the info so far.

MVMAC - Thanks for the heads up on shaft stiffness with wedges. I think I'll just stick with the 5.0 for the stiffness. I take pretty easy swings with my wedges.

WU Tiger - I was looking at the Rifle Spinner's. I have the non flighted Project X shafts.

    • Day 10 (10 Jun 26) - Played in the midweek shootout at my home course - on aerated and sanded greens - day of trying to figure tempo to get the best roll on the greens.  Approach game was decently solid as was shots off the tee.
    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
