SkyCaddie SGXw

I just received a SGXw for my birthday, but haven't had the opportunity to use it yet.  I have never used one before and wanted to see what everyone thought about it.  It seems to have everything you would want in a device from a yardage perspective as well as scoring your round.  I have looked and all the courses that I regularly play have been walked by the SkyGolf team.  Any tips on how to using the device?

I just got the SGXw as well. I came from the 2.5 and there are many more features to it. They have the users guide on their website, I suggest looking at that. Have you used a SkyCaddy previously?

No I haven't.  I just started using an izzo swami last year. It was good for knowing green distances and for the price I paid for it I liked it, but I never knew what lay up distances were or hazard distances. I just got into golf heavy within the past year and I heard all the fuss about a SkyCaddie and decided that I would get one. I'm assuming it will be an adjustment on the course for me?

I purchased my first one a few years back and it instantly changed golf for me. Of course it only gives you yardages to and from places on each golf hole, but it allows you to focus on the shot you want to make instead of guessing about what the yardage is, how much club will it take to get over the greenside bunkers on the line, should you lay up off the tee because the water is closer than you realize, that sort of stuff. The only adjustment is to check the yardages on the each tee.

The key is, if you have the SGXw, to make sure you change the yardage arcs as you see fit. When you look at the view of the hole, it shows the arcs at preset distances. You can manipulate where the arcs fall.

I have the 2.5 and found I hit more greens knowing distance front, middle, back.  Also, knowing how much I have to a green on a par 5, I am much better at laying up to a distance that I'm comfortable instead of just hitting away and hoping.

I am looking forward to playing a round with it so I can get a good estimate of what each of my clubs hit.  So far it has been an guessing game based off of averages that I have found on the net.  Thanks for all the info guys. I am going to read through the manual so I can get a good understanding of how to utilize all the features on it.
