Swing is pretty much self built. The videos include a front and dtl 7 iron shot: real time followed by a slow mo.

From what I can see, I do not seem to be clearing my hips very well.

Help me improve! Thanks.

Your hands at address are leaning back a bit. You can see this at the beginning of the video. Your hands need to be forward for more solid contact and control. I wouldn't be surprised if you're flipping the club at impact.

Also, stop the video when you're at impact. Your right leg is straight. You also need to extend your left leg a little bit at impact. You lose a lot of power if you don't use your legs. Your Legs are the most important part of your golf swing. They help transfer the weight from your right foot to your left foot. Weight transfer is the number one priority you should be working on to help improve your golf swing. Check out this video to see what I mean.

What I like about your swing is that your plane is very good. This is the part of the reason why you're a 15 handicap. Another part is that you keep your head still and behind the ball. That's good.  I see big improvements if you simply work on transferring your weight to provide more power to your swing.

Thanks for the quick reply Strickerlee. I can totally see what your saying about my weight transfer, and I intend on practicing it today before my round. I notice especially with my 3wood I need to use my lower body to get the ball into the air. The "crushing grapes" thought seems simple enough to work, so thank you for the video link. I plan to post a follow up later today about how my round went etc.

Went to the range before my round of 9, and I focused on the weight shift for most of the bucket. Today was by far my best ball striking round Ive ever had and I can certainly give a big thanks to you strickerlee! I was putting my hands more forward at address per yer recommendation and was able to easily make solid contact on most every shot. Had 2 solid birdies where I stuck my approach wedge within 3 feet of the holes.

Shot a 40 due to some blowup holes due to errors of the tee. For some reason today, I hit a few really bad snap hooks of the tee (ive never had these miss hits before), Im normally playing a straight fade and my driver misses are usually more delayed slices. A few times I think I was exagerating the weight shift causing me to bottom out sooner... Im going to try to get a video of my driver swing uploaded tomorrow.

Help me improve! Thanks!

Filmed my driver today, my misses are normally slices to the right. They will still go about 200 yds I just end up on the wrong fairway sometimes. Currently the driver is one of my least confident clubs, I tend just pound my 3wood off tee because I know ill be in the fairway.

One thing I can notice, I seem to be to stiff in the lower body, which could me causing me to bring the club too far inside. Thoughts?

Help me improve! Thanks!

Your still casting the club at the top of your downswing.  Try this.  Have the distinct feeling of leaving your hands in the final backswing position when you start your downswing.  Make your self pull your hands through impact with a slide/rotation of your hips.  This with increase your lag significantly and get your club face square on impact.  Its important not to forcefully hold your hands back at the start of the downswing.  Just enough to create the whip.

Practice today on creating the feeling of a whip with my driver and 3wood. I can certainly say I was making much better and solid contact. I notice If I make a slower backswing with my driver and 3 wood that I am able to stay in plane and not dip down when I make the transition. Having the mindset of lagging the clubhead really helped paint a picture for me while Im swinging.

Thanks for the tips everyone! I will most likely be posting another video up within the next few days. If you happen to spot anything else that needs fixing, feel free to comment!

So Ive played 2 rounds since my last post, and my ball striking has been very solid. Finally Im the one out of my group shooting the lowest (which I can say is due to the fact im the only one who is practicing putting in his spare time). I am struggling, with a capital GG on my 3 wood. I can not seem to hit it consistently, on the course I will hit the ground behind the ball, or top it and it will just dip down into roll. Even on the range, where compared to my irons, I could tell what I was doing wrong and correct it. However, my 3 wood, I cant seem to even practice the club.

Does anyone have any good advice on practicing with the 3 wood?

Thanks for any advice, help me improve!

-Collin

Shot my +4 for 9 holes today. One of my best rounds yet, No birdies, however no doubles. I rushed a couple 6 foot putts or I would of easily had a 39 (par 37). My ball striking is significantly better, I have not seen a sliced iron yet. My divots are straight with my short irons, which is always beautiful to see. I hit some really pure drives, but my misses with hybrids and 3 wood were to left.

Im going to range after Im done with work to record some new videos, should be posted up here within a few hours!

I would say something to think about next time you go out and hit a bucket is fluidity .  You seem to be very stiff and unrelaxed.  But hey, alot of great golfers play to their comfort.

One thing I would recommend practicing is creating more of a lag which will allow more power behind your shots.  Your ball flight looked solid from what I could see, but I think you could gain some more distance.  I would DEFINITELY listen to the advice about your wrists, as that can be the difference between dropping the ball onto the green and sending a low shot bouncing onto the green and over it.

Here's what I was talking about with the lag:

As you said, your swing is self-built.  I don't think that's a bad thing at all.  Like I said, people tend to play to their comforts.  (If I posted a video of my drives, nobody would know what kind of shape I was twisting myself into).  People's differences are part of what makes golf so interesting.  But I think in order to take your game to the next level, you need to be more "fluid", get your wrists under control, shift your weight so you drive into the ball, and create a lag in your swing.  Combining those will get you putting a few more times a round when you're used to chipping after an off shot.

Best of luck buddy.

Its all right here.  The first post in the thread.  If you can do these things your swing/consistency will greatly improve.  Your still casting the club at the start of the down swing.  Really focus on sliding and rotating your left hip over your left leg to start your downswing.  Don't exceed too border of your left foot with your lateral motion though.

  • 5 months later...

Hello everyone! It's been a few months since I last commented on this thread. I thought I'd a post a more current video. When I see my swing now compared to my old one, I feel like I have made great progress.

I feel like my take away could use some work. Any helps or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks to all.

I see you have made progress. However you need a better camera or change the shutter speed settings (if it's not possible to film in slowmo). The club is so blurry  it's hard to see the shafts location. Also I think you should look over the grip, it looks a bit too strong with the left hand.
