On a good day i'll putt under 30, average is around 31.

Unless you had 6 birdies, 30 putts is not necessarly a good day.

GIR must be considered along with putts in order for it to be a true measure.

Absolutely. When I have a good day putting (i.e. 30 or less) it just means I'm chipping well. My worst putting day (by number of putts) all year so far was 37 putts, but it was a decent scoring day with an 85. I hit more greens than usual, and I two putted more than usual as a result, but I made more pars because of it. Some stats can be woefully misleading when taken out of context.

I strongly agree. My best round of the season i had 36 putts with about 10 gir's and still shot an 86. I've also had rounds of <28 putts and scores of 95+. If i'm hitting GIR's then i tend to have a higher putt count.

anywhere between 26-30

I miss quite a few greens, when Im hitting a lot of greens I tend to lose confidence in the putter maybe because I have more opportunities and it seems like I miss a lot more. I probably hit about half the greens and get up and down half the time or more depending on the type of day im having.

Depends how good my iron play is. If it's good, I'll have 35-45 putts in a round, because my iron play will get me on the green but leave me a monster putt. If it's not so good and I'm missing greens, I'll have 30-35 putts in a round, with more chipping and several up's and downs.

Either way, the putting is where I could easily shave 10 strokes if I could putt better. I always misread the break.

Unless you had 6 birdies, 30 putts is not necessarly a good day.

Meaning a good putting stat day. This thread is about, PUTTING STAT not overall score.. I shouldnt have to clarify that when the thread name is "your average putts per round." I shot 80 on a 6500 yard course this past Tuesday, I had 13 2 putts and 5 1 putts. 1 birdie amongst those 1 putts, 3 up and down for pars, and 1 up and down for bogie. That is an average putting day for me, magically it also translated as an average scoring day for me aswell... incredible.

If I have 27 putts, being 7 handicap, its most likely going to be a good round anyways, because i can generally hit 50% GIR's and get up and down for par alot of the time. Not to sound like a prick but stop trying to act like a know it all and answer the thread question.

His point was that for most players, a 30 putt day can easily mean nothing in respect to how well you are putting. I've had days when I never holed anything longer than 2 feet, had 30 or 31 putts (which is a couple below my average), and still couldn't break 90. It may be meaningful for your stats, but for most of us, you HAVE to consider the other contributing factors.

I stand on my opinion that putts per 18 holes is usually a misleading stat when taken by itself.

I dont see what the issue is here. I didnt ask how many putts you had in relation to your score. Im saying do you record and count your putts on every score card. I do, I take that number and get an average from it. Generally id say id have about 31 putt average. Unfortunately im not proffesional and I dont have someone to count my putts per day for me so i guess u'll have to take my and those who posted in this threads word for it.
