  1. 1. Cart Bag or Stand Bag

I'm deciding on which to get.. since I can't own both.

I want a stand attached to the bag.. so I don't have to worry about it tipping over.. but it seems as though the stand bags have less pocket space, and non of their pockets seem realistic for a golfer. Pocket for balls, tees, etc.. I just see big diagonal slits.. which seems silly.

The cart bags are great, big, bulky, and plenty of pocket space in the right areas.. and are obviously great for carts.. but like mentioned earlier, i want a stand so if i do ever want to walk the course.. i dont have to carry that huge thing around.

So questions..

Besides mentioning the bag(s) you use.. I'm wondering if stand bags can fit nicely in carts without being too small and sliding around. Wondering if stand bags are more practical [pockets and zipper-wise] than I first though. And if cart bags are good for those cart pushers you can use on the courses.

Really don't know much about them.. sure I've looked at them.. but first-hand opinions would be great.

Stand bags work fine on golf carts. Cart bags work fine on push carts. I use both, depending on the situation. For my home course, I use my cart bag on my Clicgear, since I walk.  On vacation, I take the stand bag because it fits better in the RV, and I don't want the Clicgear and large bag to take up valuable cargo space.

Thanks for the post.

Do you find the stand bag pockets reliable for storage? Or are you wanting more.

I am stand bag guy, I prefer to walk and I don't want to pull around a cart. I just picked up a Ping 4 series Stand bag and am very happy with it. I don't know what you want to carry in your bag but if i have room for balls, tees, my car keys, maybe a rain jacket, and a couple extra gloves, I am happy. a good stand bag will be light and give you room for the important things. i don't need to pack for a 3 day weekend in my golf bag.

one thing to look for in a stand bag if you plan to carry it around the golf course is a good strap system. you want a system that will allow you to carry with one or both straps... the ping bags are great in my experience in this regard, and their base design where the whole base of the bag activates the stands just seems to make sense.

any stand bag can be strapped into a cart, so I really don't see a point to a dedicated cart bag when I walk at least 50% of the time.... quite a few courses around here don't allow walkers, they say it slows play, walking can be just as fast if not faster them riding, especially if cart path only is in place and you have 4 guys spraying balls all over the course. it always seems that no matter what happens, if there are two guys in a cart one will hit it right and the other left. I seems that you could take 2 guys that have never hit a hook in their life, put them both in a cart together and they will take turns hitting duck hooks.

anyway, I suggest looking into a ping stand bag... they have lots of options from super light all the way to 10 picket stand bag with separate putter well that only weighs something like 5.5 pounds.

It's light enough to toss 17 more feet your previous cart bag too! Seriously, it looks pretty cool.

I have a cart bag, a stand bag, and a staff bag. If I had to pick one, I would go with the stand. The newer ones have tremendous storage, are lightweight, and can easily fit on a cart. I found this Titleist Premium Stand Bag on a closeout. It has plenty of pockets with one being insulated.

I went for a Callaway stand bag. Was on sale for $110 and had to pull the trigger. Made sure it could fit my 14 clubs with the tubes.. and its the same color red as above. Thanks for the discussion fellas.

I'd go with a stand bag. It's way more convenient and versatile than a cart bag. And the new ones have just as many pockets anyways. I currently have a cart bag and I HATE always having to make sure it's standing on a flat surface when I'm loading the car moving the bag around. It's the absolute worst feeling when the bag tips over when you're loading the car and you rush it too worrying that a club head may have snapped off or gotten scuffed from the cement.

The stand bag doesn't have the pocket space of a cart bag but I find it to be really close to enough. I have no problem getting everything in my bag unless I try throwing in some beer. I can still fit a six pack but its like a beer here and 2 beers in this pocket and maybe 2 in this one etc.. I am not extremely happy with how my stand bag sits on a cart but I have learned that if it is sideways it wont move much and is very stable, Im definitely content especially since I started walking more recently I wouldn't want to go much bigger than the stand bag I have now (ogio ozone xx) fits everything I need like I said and fits on a cart just good. If I could do it all over again I would go for more of a hybrid bag such as the ogio grom. 14 way divider stand bag. kind of bulky but has the torq strap which basically turns it into a cart bag when you're in a golf cart.

I don't think it's too complicated of a decision. If you walk and carry your clubs most of the time, then a stand/carry bag.  If you mostly walk with a pull cart or ride, then a cart bag with lots of pockets and club separation is the way to go.  If you mix walk/ride, then you have to go with a stand bag.  They don't fit in pull carts very well but you can make it work and they'll be OK when riding.  Cart bags just aren't a great bag for carrying so I don't think that's even an option.
