I have been a free member of GolfLogix all summer and just upgraded to a Champions membership for $20/year.  I want to start keeping track of my stats like club yardages, greens in regulation, number of putts, etc.

I didn't even have a chance to get out to the course to try the app now that I upgraded and I noticed that the ads still pop up at the bottom.  They said no ads if you upgrade but ads still come up saying "Farmers Insurance" when viewing my rounds and I have to keep hitting close to get rid of it.

Then, I noticed that the upgrade fee doesn't include the new "Golf Digest Live" portion of the app.  That appears to be another $20/year.

I am going out golfing this Thursday to try out the upgraded app.  Hopefully I like it too much to not worry about the annoying ads.

Anyone else here use the GolfLogix app on there iPhone and would like to share there experiences?

I believe there are threads already on this forum about Golf Logix, but nonetheless I'll entertain your question here.

I use the app everytime I golf.  The championship feature to me isn't worth the $20.  The only advantage I see in it the club tracking software and the amount of calories you burn.  Measurements to the front of the green, back of the green, and hazards aren't necessarily useful for me since I routinely play the same course and know those yardages already.  Not to mention, a measurement to the middle of the green, which is the default on this app is sufficient.  If you hit the middle of the green you're more than likely set up for a decent putt. The majority of us aren't pro's and a GIR is just as good as a close approach.

The free version of the app gets you GPS to center of green, GIR , and putts .  If all you care about is yardages then I would recommend you do that the old fashioned way by measuring it out with the app instead of spending the $20 a year.  Since that's all you mentioned I'm assuming that's all you care about, if the additional GPS measurements are desired then I can't blame you for wanting to upgrade.

The ads for me did disappear when I used the free championship rounds with the app.  I don't know why they wouldn't disappear when you actually paid for it.  Hopefully someone else on here who has purchased the yearly membership can help you out with that.

I downloaded it for the yardage feature but ended up using it to track stats more than anything else. Turns out it didn't impact my club selection much with all the other things that figure into it, elevation, the lie, and above all my personal approach to the game. Honestly most of the time I forget to load the courses until I am through a few holes so I haven't been using it much lately. I did make a few tweaks after tracking stats for a few months and I shaved a few strokes.

That's my goal too.  Keep track of stats, see where I need to improve to lose those few extra strokes.  I know I probably won't be able to use it when I'm with a group because I don't want to slow the game down but I have been using the free version while practicing (and no one is behind me).

Like Motown88 said, all I really need is the distance to the center of the green so the extra feature of knowing the distance to the front or back is just extra.  I honestly cannot hit that accurate anyway.  I'm happy to be on the green in regulation any day.

Can we add a section in the app that keeps track of beers consumed during play?  Or beers consumed before and after play, for that matter.

QUESTION: Did you guys figure out how to access your data on the GolfLogix website?  I don't remember using an email address to create my account for the app and that is what I need to login.  I emailed them the question but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Me neither, but I get emails from them with my round summary.  I assume they pull your email from your iTune account.  I've never tried to log onto the GolfLogix website though so I'm not sure.  I'll check it out and if I figure anything out I'll let you know.

update: It is the email associated with your iTunes account, at least it was for me.  I said forget password and they email it to you.

I've used golf logix all year but recently downloaded golf gps from the app store and it's pictures are satellite photos from google earth and the yardages are excellent to me. I now use it almost exclusively and I'm still using the free version.

I am waiting for the app that will watch your shot and guide you to the spot in the rough where your ball ended up. Now that's an app I would pay good money for!

    • I would never do the extended warranty on the $50 slow cooker.  I also routinely reject the extended service plans on those toys we buy for the grand-kids.  I do consider them on higher cost items and will be more likely to get one if the product has a lot of "Electronic Tech" that is often the problem longer-term.  I also consider my intended length of ownership & usage.  If my thought is it would get replaced in 2-3 years then why bother but if I hope to use it for 10 years then more likely to get the extension. I did buy out a lease about a year ago.  Just prior to the lease end date the tablet locked up and would not function.  I got it repaired under the initial warranty and would not have bought it out if they had not been able to fix it since IMO once electronic issues start in a car they can be hard to track down & fix.  They did fix it but when I bought out the lease I paid up for the extended warranty the would cover electronic failures because my intent is to keep that car for another 8-10 years and I just do not trust the electronics to last.  Last week the touch screen went black and was unresponsive.  It reset on the 2nd time I restarted the car but that is exactly how the last malfunction started.  I fully expect to have a claim on that on repair under the extended warranty.  I do not recall the exact cost to fix last time since I did not pay it but I think it was @ $700-$800 and I suspect that will be higher next time.
    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
    • I run tournaments and want to put in a local rule that allows relief from tree roots and rocks that are not loose impediments. We have some really terrible lies in some of our courses in my area and nobody is getting paid enough to break clubs. Let me know if you think the verbage for this rule makes sense. Local Rule Roots and Rocks You may move your ball from a tree root or buried rock one club length for free relief no closer to the hole. However you may not use this rule to get relief from a tree, bush, boulder, or other foliage hindering your swing. Your only option here is to play it as it lies or take an unplayable for a one stroke penalty.
    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
