Hi, I was given this driver for my birthday, along with a 3-iron that came with it. It is 10degrees (not sure what that means). Does anyone know anything about this club? I am completely new to golf, and am just looking for something that I can learn to drive on, that is a step up from the old, crappy, dented rentals at the local range.

This is the club:

Thank you.

I would think it is more than adequate for you to learn on. It doesn't really matter for you, right off the bat. The most important thing for new golfers is probably confidence, followed by practice. The best thing you can do is stick to cheap clubs for now and spend the extra money on lessons and then you can move on up!

I'm really digging the name.

It's kind of insulting and hilarious at the same time.

If you ask me I don't think you should learn the game with a larger driver even if you are a beginner. Get a decent 460cc driver and start from there.

Exactly. I never even had a driver until a year after I started playing golf. Use a legal driver.

Yeah, but by using a driver like this its only going to make the driving game for him harder when he becomes a more serious player. He should really start off with a 400cc driver then use a 460.

or even start with a 3 wood which is shorter so that he'll have more control

Thank you for all of your replies, I really appreciate them.

I realize now that the second club is actually a 3-wood, not an iron. As far as using a smaller clubhead, can someone explain the reasoning behind this for me? If it is just simply so that it abides by some regulation set by an organization that I've never heard of, I can't really justify returning it solely for that when I was able to get such a good deal on the pair. You have to realize, at this point in my life I don't have the time or the money to get really hardcore about golf. I'm just a poor student who is looking for something to take on a weekly trip to the driving range for some fun, while developing my swing so that if I take up the sport down the road, I'll have developed some technique.

bflat450 said that a large head will make driving harder long term, can you elaborate? I could focus on using just the 3-wood until I get my swing under control, then move up when I feel I'm ready. If you guys really feel that a driver this large will be a problem long term, can someone recommend a comparable driver that I can find for around $70-80? I don't mind buying used as long as its in really good condition.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm just trying to make some sense of all of this.

P.S. How long should a club be in comparison to your body? I realize that the driver is longer than the other clubs. I'm shorter than the average guy, around 5'7". When I looked at the clubs, with the head resting at my feet, the 3-wood came up to around my belly button, and the driver to my xiphoid process (the bone at the bottom of the sternum). Are these too long, or are they ok?

If you consider the range the "fun" part of golf, then your 560 should be jsutr fine. The USGA is the authority on golf, so non conforming basically means that no rounds you play can be recorded with USGA, NCGA, etc for handicap determination.

The length sounds fine, usually drivers are about 45" in length

While I do find the range to be fun, I don't know if it's the fun part. It's just the only part of golf I've experienced. I've never played on a course before. It's just that the range is cheap (compared to 18 holes), close to where I live, and only requires one club.

If I do decide to start playing by USGA regs. at some point, would the move to a 460cc club be difficult? I imagine that if I started playing seriously enough that I was going to play by official rules, I would want to upgrade at some point, and that upgrade could be to a 460cc club.

If you're good you should be able to migrate to any club with a lil practice.
