Hello everyone, I was interested in getting either the Rocketballz driver or 3 wood. I only have 250 dollars to spend, so I couldn't get both. Does anyone have any of these clubs? If so, which would you recommend more?
Rocketballz driver or 3 wood?
Golf Gear mentioned in this thread:
Conversely, I tend to hit the RBZ 3W very well off the deck. I think it's mostly because I know I don't need to overswing to get it to the green.
I tried the RBZ driver twice - once in an hour-long bakeoff vs. the Cleveland Classic 290 - and I was all over the place with it. RBZ is the worst driver I hit in the past 5 years.
I fared better with the RBZ 3W.HL (high launch, basically a 17* 4W), and the 7W. If you've had trouble with other 3Ws in past, definitely try the 3W.HL. If you go with the standard RBZ, be aware that the stock Matrix XCon-5 shafts are only 45 grams, and may play a bit soft. Also, torque = 4.5 with a medium tip, and a rated mid to high trajectory. HINT: Try out different shaft flexes, and other shafts if available.
If you have really good clubhead speed, the RBZ Tour version would be worth testing also. The Matrix Rul.70 shafts are about 25 grams heavier, have torque at 3.0 and a more medium trajectory. But the 3W heads 13* and 14.5*, less friendly in loft.
Maybe a Rul.70 shaft in a standard RBZ head? Only your clubfitter knows for sure.
The RBZ Tour driver was one of the best additions to my bag in many years. Love it!!
I went with the R11s 3-wood. I liked the increased adjustability and the recent price drop allowed me to purchase it below the price of the RBZ 3-wood. The R11s 3-wood has been surprisingly good.
There was some reluctance to pick up the RBZ driver. I had read lots of posts on many discussion boards that were complimentary and many that were negative. But, has there ever been a club that every player gets along well with? A good friend manages a large off-course golf store. He said their customers had overwhelmingly been positive about the RBZ line. He told me to wait and he'd let me know when an RBZ Tour was traded in and I could try it for a few rounds. He'll need to pry it from my hands if he wants it back!!!!
I have owned both the RBZ driver and 3 wood, i still play the 3 wood and am a huge fan. i hit it longer then most of my team mates drivers. the only thing is that i thought that the stock stiff shafts were way too light and weak. I got rid of the driver because of the shaft, and i did not like what it did with slight miss hits. but if you like the shafts stiffness i think it will be a great fit. and it is the longest driver i have ever hit to this day.
For the OP, I'd get fitted for an RBZ Driver. One uses the driver up to 14X on the course, whereas one might use a 3 wood maybe 3-4X. In addition, that 3 wood is 43.5 inches. That long shaft length is tough for a player who may have trouble with longer shafted clubs off the deck. I've only seen players with speed and athleticism hit the RBZ 3 wood well. Other guys have it, but might hit it decently 1 out of 5 times. Get the Driver.
Definitely this. The Tour versions look and play better for me.
In about a month or so, the price will be coming down again, rumor has it.
So get both.
In taking to an Edwin Watts manager today, I found out that the adjustable RBZ drivers are being discontinued. He might have even said that the entire RBZ line is going to be changed next year. Maybe I heard him wrong. Doesn't make sense to me, given the success Taylormade has had with the RBZ line.
