Rock and Roll golf swing - help!

All,

 

Even though I've vowed to follow the rules and post my swing on "member swings," I haven;t done so yet. I did do some filming in my garage, though, last night, and noticed one problem (among many) I have that I've never really addressed. How do good ball strikers remain so still during their swing? When I draw a line parallel to my front side at setup, by the time I reach the top of my backswing, I am at least six inches behind the line. I think it's an old baseball power habit - loading up on the back leg before driving forward into the ball. Pro golf swingers load up on their right side also (or so I've heard and read), but they look like they're barely moving back at all. I did a side-by-side with Fred Couples and it looks like his lateral back-and-forth movement is maybe 1 inch, but he clearly murders this 5-iron shot I've got. The swing looks almost entirely rotary in the torso with a great ball striker. I've labeled my rocking back on my right leg my "Rock and Roll golf swing."

 

Question - how do I stabilize my body during a golf swing and maintain power? I was thinking of planting an alignment rod right next to my instep of my back foot and try to avoid touching it. Any drills anyone can recommend? My swing "looks" better in many ways, but this habit is still one ugly one that I know I need to fix. Anyone else have the same problem? I know a pic. or vid. would help.

Turn your shoulders in a circle. Shoulder down. Check out mvmac's thread on a centered pivot.

Don't try to move your weight "back". That's vague. Move your weight to the inside of your back foot

That would be much less back than I'm used to. Thanks for the tip.
