Need help figureing out what shaft weight.

Hi everybody,


So I am getting an RBZ stage 2 tour 3wd with a Kaili X flex in it. My swing speed with my driver is about 110 and i am just not sure if i should order the 71g or the 81g. If anyone has any input that would be great.

Both X shafts are 2.8 torque (low), mid trajectory, firm tip and for medium swing tempo. Only difference is the weight.

 

Note: Catalog prices list either shaft for $359, so TM might charge you an upgrade for Kaili.

 

Any Kaili shafts (made by Diamana) in the local TM fitting cart? Possibly a pre-purchase launch-monitor session is in order?

I know that there is an upcharge for both shafts. There are not any 3 wood shafts in the local fitting cart... TM has been slow and not given them any shafts yet. I was just wondering if there would be a set weight that would be better or if it is just about feel?

Rule of thumb seems to be that the 3-wood shaft is about 10 grams heavier than your driver.  However, I think that rule is stupid--I have the exact same shaft in both my driver and 3-wood, and hit both great.

Of course, that "rule" exists to maintain a relatively common swingweight. That's all.

Tiger Woods apparently uses a 103g X shaft in his 3 wood

 

Dustin Johnson uses a 91g X flex in his 3 wood.

 

Since their swing speeds probably range between 115-123, I'd think an 80g shaft may work for you.

 

Of course, it all depends on the characteristics of the shaft, how you launch, weight and swing weight you prefer. It's a tinkering issue.  My 21 yr old son's swing speed was in the 110+ range, and he used an Attas 80g shaft in his Adams 5050 14.5 head.

I ordered the 71 gram. I can always add a little weight if i feel like it is to light. Thanks everybody for the help. I am excited to play it because i have not trusted a three would lately so i hit driver off the deck because i hit it better...

What is the weight of the shaft you use now and then go from there. If you have that swing speed with a heavy shat then go for the 81 gram. If you have that swing speed with a lighter shaft then go with the 71gram

I have not found a fairway I can hit very well... So I hit driver off the deck, which surprising with an 8.5 head I can actually hit really well...
