Inconsistent ball striking. Is the triangle the fix?

I've been having quite a stuttery swing and hitting a few s bombs along the way which really knocks my confidence.  Had a couple of lessons and I've been working on a one piece takeaway but I seem to have trouble with doing the same backswing each time.  I've read that making sure you have a triangle at all times in the backswing can help you to hit better and it seemed to be a bit better tonight but does this really work or would I be doing something different which I was unaware of?

If you have a solid swing but something is knocking your confidence, it's probably something you should read up on about golf/sports psychology if you want to read a book. should help you forget the bad shots and look at the next one.

Its not so much forgetting the poor shots but doing something different in my swing inconsistently.

the whole "one piece takeaway" and keeping the "triangle" are difficult concepts to deal with - if you truly kept the triangle that you see at address throughout most of the backswing then the right arm wouldnt fold and you wouldnt be able to lift your arms above your chest.

 

the main thing in the backswing is that the hands move back, in and up.

I would say the thought of the triangle might get you in positions that correlate to consistent contact. Colin007 makes a great point with the right arm folding at some point in turn wrecking said triangle, as well as the hands back, in and up all solid info. Having the arms extended at impact and connected with pressure against the ribcage throughout the entire swing creates stability which would aid in consistency.

There are a few things that will cause inconsistency.  Some basics to keep in mind are to keep your head still.  You can get by with a lot of things if your head doesn't move left or right or up and down.  Another thing that we amateurs do is to ignore the proper weight transfer.  In the back swing make sure your weight does NOT go to the outside of your back foot.  As for the triangle, take a look at Ben Hogan's swing in slo mo.  The (for right handers) right elbow stays in front of the body, not the side.  This is done by keeping the upper arms attached to the side of the chest.  All of this is difficult to comprehend without seeing it done so take a look at the masters on Youtube.

Work on the 1 pc back swing to 1/3 of the backswing or the halfway point over and over until it becomes automatic....I never learned the triangle other than the theory but it is not one of my swing thoughts so I can't comment on that. But you really must have YOUR take away down pat!

 

Hard to say what is going on with your swing without seeing it but practicing the take-away until it is grooved is a great start to good ball striking.
