How do you keep the same swing from day to day?

So I know everyone has off days and on days. But one thing the pros seem to be good at is being able to perform relatively the same swing from day to day.

 

For example the other day I played awful and didn't par many holes, was ready to quit. Then the next day I shoot 78(about average for me), and then played another 9 and was 2 under with only 1 bogey on the first hole.

 

Anyone here have any tips or ways that you are able to do the same thing every day?

Golf is being able to manage the swing you have that day. The pros practice a lot more and are better at managing their daily changes. Note how hard it is for the pros to be elite consistently... top ten this week, missed cut the next!

Your swing is 99% the same from day to day.

 

It's just the last 1% that's different. That's how fine a line it is.

I think routine is a big part of this too. Do the same thing on every shot, every hole, every day. Even at the range. It's not a magic wand but it helps the body and mind repeat complex actions. The subtleties can be as simple as your shoe needs a new cleat so those things are tougher but if the big stuff is consistent you at least won't have the HUGE differences day to day.

You must be a pro... Most people's swings are not 99% from swing to swing, or practice swing to the real one! Your body feels different things and your mind thinks different things. I'd go 75% max!

Routine is big to tie in the day to day though... Great point!

Well I am a million miles from being a pro but if I look at all of my swings that I have video taped they are very much the same, infuriatingly so.

Biggest factor for me is how I feel. I don't think my swing changes much but my body and brain does. If I'm not 100% on top of the world I really should stay off the course. Everything from how well I slept to how much beer I drank the night before plays a part. Unfortunately I don't live to golf so I deal with it the best I can.

You can shoot video of a regular golfer, a guy who sometimes breaks 90, two years apart and if they haven't worked with an instructor you'd be hard pressed to find any significant changes in their swing.

 

That's WHY they struggle to break 90 - because their BAD motion REPEATS. There's a weird misconception out there that the average golfer's swing doesn't repeat. It does - almost as well as the PGA Tour pro's swings. Their compensations and errors are simply such that small variations produce vastly different results, but the swings themselves are very similar.

 

The two or three good shots the average player hits during a round are the ANOMALIES, just like the two or three bad shots a PGA Tour player might hit in a round.
