I've started noticing some discounted tee times on Golfnow with a "Play Fast Promotion" icon.  I have no doubt about what the general idea is there, but I have yet to find any specific details about what this entails.  Searches have proved fruitless.

Anybody booked a "Play Fast Promotion" tee time?  Did they specify any special rules for pace of play?  Are there any other expectations when booking these times that aren't already expected of us (example: we should already be playing "ready golf" anyway)?

I've noticed those too.  They all seem to be early morning times, so I'm guessing that it's for those that want to get out early to get around quickly, more than an incentive to encourage people to play faster.....

I agree. I use golfnow a lot and I usually try to book the super early tee times. I play a lot with my youngest son who just started playing and it works out best if we can get the first tee time so he doesn't feel rushed and there's less chance of us holding anybody up.

my get up and go musta got up and went..

I had this question myself and couldn't find any answers.  A quick email to GolfNow provided this:

Thank you for your email. In response to your inquiry RE: 'Play Fast Promotion', the term simply means that pace of play is being strictly enforced.

We purchased one as the price was good.  I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary except that the times tended to be early.  I don't recall seeing any more marshals than usual for example.

Interesting.  One of the courses that is offering this tee time promotion is at a course that has marshalls that don't enforce a darn thing.  I'm probably going to book a slot there and see if anything is different.

Mind you, I'm not worried about playing slow myself.  I just don't want to get the feeling that the Marshal is going to follow only my group around the course because we committed to a "Play Fast" promotion and throw us off the course if we fall 5 minutes behind pace.

This actually explains what happened a couple weeks ago. I booked an early morning foursome at a local course and when the starter saw we booked on golfnow, he made a point to tell us four times that pace of play was to be no more than 2 hrs 10 mins per nine. Not sure why he bothered though, seeing as how we had to wait on almost every single shot.

And that was his idea of fast ? :-\ My buddy and I played a full round in 2:25 last Friday. Would have been quicker, but we had to play through two slower groups.

I thought the same thing but that course gets a lot of play and tends to bog down.

As others have said, the times are offered around non-peak times and some courses are sending out golfers on longer delays. My buddy is using this icon to promote his course as well and they're basically bumping times to 15 minute intervals to ensure that things get off to a good start. Obviously, there's no guarantee that you don't run into anyone else or hit a backup.

The few that I played were between 6:45 AM and 7:15 AM, but we still had pace issues and played 18 as a two-some in 4.5 hours. Not that bad, but given we spent approximately 45+ minutes spread out over 18 waiting.

Try it out, but I think it's just a "glam" icon added to draw attention to the deal and no real adjustments are made to ensure fast play.

    • You all are right, its not that big of an issue, I'll leave it alone, especially after looking at that picture of Tigers beat up putter. But I also noticed the small circle worn on the sweet-spot where he hits it every time, I definitely don't have one of those. Thanks for the replies
    • Committing to one brand of ball this year - Snell MTB Prime X, the 5 doz. pack. Like how they perform for me. At $18/doz., can live with cover scuffing. Iron regripping with GolfPrice MCC+4 Teams std. in red/navy. May be retiring Odyssey Dual Force after 30 yrs. Seems like I can't get it to the hole anymore. Kind of light and has lots of toe hang. My reg. group's hounding finally wore me down.    From Callaway preowned - trying out the Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K in double wide (less toe hang) and triple wide (face balanced). Both also noticeably heavier...we shall see.
    • WOW, it looks like he has been hitting stones with that putter to put all of those nicks into it.  I can't see how a ball would cause many those dings.
