I currently play a 5.7 index and am looking for a players set of irons. Budget is $1100 or less. Any recommendations?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely try out the Mizunos. Does anyone know if there are any new sets coming out in the next couple of months that may be worth the wait?

While I play at a higher handicap, I recently just hit many of the irons you will probably be looking at in this price range. I hit the Mizuno MP64, Titleist AP2 and AP1, Callaway X Forged and something from Cobra. I did not care for the AP1 or AP2s. I currently play the AP2s and never quite grew comfortable with them. The Callaway X Forged Irons were nice, felt good and seemed consistent. The Cobra irons were solid, but didn't have the same feel that the Callaway's offered. The clear winner, at least in my opinion, were the MP64s. Nothing I hit compared feel wise or with the look at address. I hit these on two separate occasions and was very happy both times. Last week I got fitted and purchased the MP64s, After adding the New Decade Multicompounds I think my total came to 114X.

Now I just have to wait for them to come in.

Try the X Forged 2013 Version with the Pxi (?) shafts.

A very attractive player's forging that offers some forgiveness.

I went to a local demo day and tried a bunch out. This is the order I rank them in.

1. Mizuno MP-64 - Great sound, great feel, easy to work.

2. Callaway X-Forged - Not quite the same feel as the Mizunos but still very good workability and consistent.

3. Mizuno MP-59 - About the same feel as the 64's, easier to work than the 64's but you have to hit every shot in the small sweet shot to play with the longer irons. Still a great club but I don't think I'll be quite as consistent with them.

4. Titleist AP2 - Not bad, but not the same sound and feel as the Mizunos.

5. Titleist CB - Look great, but didn't like them much as the others.

Looks like I'll be going with the 64's, custom fit. Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

Yeah I hit them at a local demo day and compare to every other iron I tried, they were definitely the best feeling, best looking, and best performing iron in my hands,

Can't argue with Mizunos...they have a sweet feel.  Let us know how you like them after a few rounds.

I've only played one round with them, but I have to say that they're awesome. Shot a 78 (with a double on the last hole ), and had a 3 inch tap-in and a 2 foot tap-in birdie on two par 3's. Definitely feel a lot nicer and are easier to work than my last set.
