How does one pivot?

I dont quite understand the concept of pivot.

My understanding is that one pivots around a leg.

But do you keep weight on the heels or toes? inside or outside of the foot?

Do you use the other leg as a second pivot point as well?

What part of the leg do you pivot around...the foot? the knee? the hip?

What part of the swing are you referring?

It seems like any rotation should be around the spine.

i read about how the arms swing and the body pivots but I really dont understand what "pivot " means.

Yes spine rotates but the spine doesnt pivot. Pivot to me is  a term to describe a posted up leg motion, like in basketball.

I see.
Now I would like to see the answers.

Take a look at Butch Harmon's column in Golf Digest. (One of last three issues, I'm not at home so I can't check).

Butch says that a golfer should:

  • Pivot on the back leg on the backswing
  • Pivot on the front leg on the downswing

See the column for the details.
