I am going to be in Vegas in January and want to squeeze in a round of golf while there. Would like to find something as close to strip as possible (short on time) and inexpensive (no more than $100). Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any pointers!

Take your pick........... http://www.lasvegasgolf.com/

If you are staying in one of the hotels, check with their information desk for golf courses and rates. I live 50 miles out side of Vegas, but seldom go into town to golf there.

I prefer  the courses in Boulder City, and Mesquite. Both, of which are about the same distance away from me. Both have less traffic to deal with. Of those two I prefer the Boulder City course.

In My Bag:
A whole bunch of Tour Edge golf stuff......

Angel Park is a good option.

Thank you for that. I see it is around ~13 miles from the hotel I will be at on the strip which should be an easy cab ride. There are 2 courses: Palm & Mountain. Any suggestion/recommendation as to which one?

Either one is good but the Mountain is what I would recommend.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am just gonna go with MConstantineJr's suggestion of Angel Park. Seems easy enough. If I wasn't short on time I would try and explore more..

The mountain chose is more undulation. The palms course has more aesthetics. If you get the chance try and play the cloud9 while you are there.

Thanks

  • 2 months later...

So I played Angel Park yesterday (Mountain Course).

Here is my feedback:

* If you dont hit well, you dont have much chance to scramble as there are giant desert ditches along and intertwined most of the fairways. Its very hard to locate your ball in these let alone hit it from there.

* The greens were very fast and quite sloped on many holes. Even with a most delicate tap the ball would often go rolling past the hole ~10 feet or so (on downhill putts and not so downhill putts alike).

So I found the course to be quite challenging for my skill level. I am a 2nd year golfer at this point with a ~22 handicap. At my home course I am usually in the mid-high 90s. I had 3-4 blowup holes yesterday. Haven't had that happen in a while.

Overall though I am glad I got to play a round of golf in January and appreciate the suggestion. Perhaps I might do better on the Palm Course next time. I am going to be back here in March. Cheers.

I used to play Angel Park everytime I go to Vegas.

Now I play Badlands Golf Course which is nearby Angel Park.

http://badlandsgc.com/

IMHO badlands all three 9 holes are better than the Mountain Course at Angel Park.

But the staff at Angel Park are a lot better.

Ay33660, why do you feel Badlands is better? My playing partner yesterday mentioned Badlands too. Also, have you played the Palm course at Angel? If so, how is it? Thanks

I only played two of the three 9's and to be honest I don't remember which two but I think it was Desperado and Diablo.

We played there on the recommendation of a friend who lives in LV who is a very good golfer.

The third nine is Outlaw. I erred in my original review that I liked all three 9's better at Badlands as I only have real life experience on two of them.

I have played the Mountain Course a lot more than the Palm Course at Angel Park.

I found the Mountain Course to be more challenging than the Palm Course. Except the Palm Course seemed to have more water.

I am usually in LV in the fall so I usually play which ever course has recovered better from over-seeding.

IMHO both courses' driving ranges sucked.

Badlands is more of a typical desert target styled course than either courses at Angel Park. I am usually a straight and accurate (but relative short) driver so target golf does not bother me. I think that for someone who is a bit wilder they may not like Badlands as much.

To me the fairways were more generous at either of the Angel Park courses vs. Badland's two nines.

I may have just played Angel Park too much to appreciate it.

This is not PC but there are two young ladies that work in the proshop at Angel Park ........ very easy on the eyes.

Update:

Decided to play Bali Hai instead next time around. I am aware that it might be a little bit of a tourist trap and of the constant airport noise, but I got a good pre-paid rate and with the reduced cab fare (being on the strip) it will be a wash.

Bali Hai isn't a bad track.  Sounds like you already know the drill on the constant air traffic, but outside of that it's a pretty good track.  There are definitely better courses and better deals to be had out at Mesquite and other areas, but frankly, unless you are renting a car, Bali Hai is a good choice.  It's a bit overpriced, but like you said, a cab or rental car is going to run you at least $50 RT and likely closer to $100, so by the time you deduct that it's a wash.  Plus I can be at BH and back at my room in 20 minutes, which gives me more time to gamble!

If I every planned on playing more than a round while in Vegas I'd get a rental car and play Coyote Springs or some of the other great tracks, but for the convenience factor it's Bali Hai or Wynn, and the Wynn is the most overpriced track in the US.  More than Pebble for what is a very average (albeit VERY well manicured) track.

I have heard of a few courses that have pick up/delivery included in your fees but I don't know the details on those.

I played both TPC Las Vegas and A.P mountain course lasy week and without a doubt Angel Parks rolled extremely faster. Probably some of the fastest I've played in awhile. No joke Hate, Hate , Hate Badlands...kicks my ass every time. Great course to bet money if you know the course vs a first timer. National isn't in the best shape but very close to the strip and a course with a lot of history. Tiger Woods won his 1st PGA tournament ever there. Bali Hai is nice, but for 200 more Shadow Creek blows every course out of the water in my opinion. Truly have to see it to believe it. Insane its in the middle of North Las Vegas

Thanks for the feedback. Yep, the cab fair is minimum of $100 RT to off strip locations. I am paying $139 at BH so it gets to be pretty close price wise. I heard the Wynn is $500. That's insane, but all is relative in life I guess.
