Best 3 wood for off the deck & tee

I currently hit my tightlies in the fairway and either my hybrid or 4i on narrow par 4's off the tee. Losing some distance I feel. All 3 are around 190-210. Looking for that 225 club that I can hit off the tee and off the fairway. Plan is to replace the old tightlies 3w I carry. I like the feel of the Callaway BB 3W, seams easy to hit off tee or fairway (tried at range). Any suggestions on other 3w that may fit my needs.

Try the Taylormade Burner, I carry one and can hit it off the tee, off the deck, and out of the rough pretty easily

I have the MacGregor NVG2.. Comes with a fujikura shaft and the sound it makes, upon impact, is a one of a kind. Launch angle's moderate but distance is still amazing. Probably my most useful club on a windy day.

I bought the Taylormade R7 3Wood in stiff shaft.... it has become my money club.... 220 off the tee whenever i want, and DEAD STRAIGHT. I rarely hit driver anymore because its become my bread and butter.

Plan is next day it's not raining here in New England to go the the golf&ski; warehouse in Hudson NH and try out as many as I can. I'm looking for a more traditional 3w, unlike the low faced tightlies I currently have. The tight lies is great for soft landing, but so is my hybrid 3, looking for someday getting to a par 5 in two! Can count on 1 hand how many times that has happened, hell I only need two fingers and that was years ago. Thanks for the input!

Hey man, I know this takes a little more effort than walking up to a retail rack and just testing different brands til you find one that feels "right", but have you considered having a custom club made? A good club maker will be able to determine what length shaft you hit most effectively, shaft flex(es) that maximise head speed at impact, accurate lie angle for your unique setup, and the proper head for your attack angle.

I went through the process a few weeks ago when I pre-ordered the new Wishon 525 F/D ("Fairway Driver"). It's got a 13 degree face, similar to a 3-wood, a shorter shaft than a driver so it's easier to control, but the 200cc head is configured more like a driver head. While this makes it tougher to hit off the deck if you don't have at least a 20 degree launch angle, it also makes it tremendously effective off the tee - which is what it's meant for. In fact, after using it now for about a month I've taken my Taylor Made driver out of the bag completely. This Wishon 3-wood hits longer, straighter, and is easier to shape shots with than ol' #1.

Even if you can't - or don't want to - go with Wishon brand, I think that ANY custom fitted club will benefit your game more than an off the rack item built to "average" specs. Even if the salesman assures you that their launch monitor is just as good as a full custom fitting.

Oh - and the price isn't bad for these things either. Custom fitting sessions seem to run around 50 bucks give or take, but often that is offset by the lower prices of the clubs themselves. Wishon, Infinity, et al, just don't have to elevate their prices to fund multi-media ad campaings and pro sponsorships.

Just my (probably very lonely, lol) opinion.

I have a Cleveland HiBore 3W and I LOVE it. I can really step on it and hit it 250+ off the tee, but more often can just take a smooth, solid swing for 220-230. I've recently had some opportunities to hit it off the deck and find that its shape really glides through the ball.

do you play the 13 or 15 degree? I have hit the 13 and loved it. Also what shaft are you using?

I went to Golfsmith and bought the Callaway X tour 15 degree. I was looking at the regular X but the computer said I was hitting it way too high so I got the smaller tour head with the Tour Platform Stiff shaft. I can hit it 240 off the deck without too much difficulty. The reason that I went to Golfsmith was for the 90/90 guarantee. I mean sure the computer launch monitor is nice, but how about under real conditions. It lived up to the hype and it has earned a spot in the bag.

I switched from my Callaway Hawkeye VFT 3 wood to a Cobra Baffler Hybrid 16 degree in order to get more consistancy off the fairway. Well, the strategy worked but I lost some distance. I looked for a fairway wood that appeared as though it would be as easy to hit as the hybrid. Because of the shallow face and the overall small size, the newly released Titleist 906F4 15.5 degree just looked so good at set up. Sure enough, it proved easy to hit well from the fairway. I reshafted it with the Aldila NV-65 shaft ( similar to the one in my hybrids ). The club is just as easy to hit off the tee. The key to success off the tee is to tee it up very low, just as you would a hybrid. You may wish to give this 3 wood a try.
