Go for a higher launching shaft?

Hi guys,

I was hitting some clubs on a launch monitor yesterday (AP2, Mizzy MP line) and I was hitting the ball what I thought to be pretty solid. The one exception was that there was too much roll out for a 6 iron, the ball was not landing as soft as I would like it to. The club fitter had me bring my current 6 iron and it was the same story. He said that I deloft my clubs (my swing style) a club down, my 6i has the numbers my 5i should have. Should I go with his recommendation of higher launching shafts or is this something I can work out with my swing? Has anyone been in this position before? If so what did you do? Shaft recommendations? He told me that I shouldn't be changing my swing I should just get a shaft that fits my style better. Here is a video of me hitting a 7i for reference.

They were showing a lot of roll from the LM? With a previous question I asked about a club I demo'd, I was advised not to pay a whole lot of attention to the roll after the shots on the LM. It could be set to downhill, rock hard, etc. I would pay more attention to carry distances. That is how I've started judging all the balls I hit on the LM now, when checking out new clubs.

When you hit your current 6 iron on the course or range, do you feel like it rolls too far? Does it not land as soft as you would like? Because unless you have seen that with an actual golf ball on actual ground, then I would take the roll-out on the LM with a grain of salt, and not really rely on it.

I forgot to be honest with you, I'm supposed to be going back soon so I'll find out. I mean I kind of play a low shot most of the time (back in my stance, stand a little closer to the ball) I feel it gives me more control. It's not by any means a worm burner, just a little lower than average. The numbers that were different from the pro ones you posted in the other thread were the spin (pretty obvious) and my launch angle was a couple of degrees lower than their 6i numbers. Yeah no doubt it's a swing thing. That was one of the things we worked on last year. My instructor wanted me hitting the ball higher to keep it on greens for longer approach shots. We didn't even talk about shafts. I average 86 feet now. My problem was I was hitting everything like a funky full swing punch and I honestly didn't know I was doing it. I think it started from not doing a drill correctly and eventually it became a problem.

How did you and your coach work the higher launch into your swing?

You should see someone and work on what you need. What worked for me was specific to me and like I said the problem was me exaggerating something I thought was right. All he really did was point it out on the videos and tell me not to do it, that happened at my first lesson. Even then my apex wasn't super low or anything I was still hitting the ball higher than most guys I see out there. If I had to guess the higher handicap golfers I encounter max out around 50 feet and less.
