Project X shaft reviews.. anyone please chime in..

So I'm thinking about a new set of irons, and I hear some good things about the Project X shaft..

Please post your results here (comparisons to your old shafts, ball flight differences, distance differences, etc.) I'd prefer people that have upgraded their clubs from one shaft to the Project X shaft.. as opposed to peoples that picked up a whole new set of clubs with the shafts.

I really recommend you got see a fitter in your area. You may not see the same results as others do given the different heads, ball and mainly swing. I am using the Project X shafts but I was fit for them and yes they were an improvement from my old clubs.

depending on your game project x were developed to help golfers who are in the mid to low handicap place . it will be better to have yourself fitted first befor investing in these very expensive shafts . i see lots of golfers whom i get the chance to play with shift to irons to be fitted with X shafts . Thing is it never done their game any good and they were only there for display . just because they saw their favorite Tour players bag with project X in them moved them to conclude that it too would be good for their game ..

With your specs shown you can be fitted with the X 7.0 . Tour stiff specs for high velocity swing speeds . These are only good for your long irons . Mid irons would be better off with ordinary s400 by true temper . short irons can use Reg flex . dont need muscle and power for short game so i dont see the point of having shafts in tour stiff or X stiff . If you have yourself fitted you will find out that different kinds of shafts will be used for your iron set ... this is normal if you chance on a tour van that visits your vicinity . check them out on your favorite clubmakers website .

Yes, I understand the concepts of fitting.

I'm looking for people's stories about their shaft changes to Project Xs. I'm not sitting here asking what clubs "Are best for me".

Thanks.. I've been fitted before, and have had sets of clubs that have had variable flexes throughout the set.. I have some good things to say, and some bad things.. but.. I'm not worried about those things..

I have Project X 6.0 Rifle Shafts on my irons. Previously, I played with Regular Flex T Step 90 Shafts. The difference is night and day. I get a higher ball flight, the shaft is heavier so I don't feel as though I'm losing the club, (That's the best description I can give) and my tempo and rhythm have improved.

I recommend you go to a fitter that can let you hit these shafts on various different heads. Only you can tell if they are for you. The launch monitor/computer can spit out information but if you're not comfortable...

I changed from being a dynamic gold fan to project x in one range session for me they are simply amazing...tried the dynamic gold shafts in my new 695's again and for me they fly too high just cannot keep the ball down so immediately went back to the project's...best low ball flight shafts in my oppinion

I transitioned from DGX's on my MP-33s to Project X 6.5s (standard not flighted). I've never had any issue getting my long irons into the air and definitely like the trajectory of the Project Xs much better than the DGX's. I've also picked up 8-10 yards on every club. I've been thinking about Titleist ZMs and have hit them with both the Project X and DGX and actually prefer the feel of the DGX shaft with that club so I think a fair bit of the equation is the way the shaft works with the head design.

I played with the standard shafts on the mp-60's for a few months. I was still grooving my swing when I changed into the px 5.5's. My iron speed isn't fast at all, and I try to focus on tempo. The shafts are a noticeably heavier than the dg's. I have the flighted version which you know helps get the longer irons into the air via kp.
After fitting if they tell you that you're good to go with px's you'll see a HUGE change in the trajectory of your ball.
when I 1st got the mp-60's I had no idea how the ball was gonna come off of the club & the path it would take...it's cool stepping up to the ball and hitting it, and the ball does exactly what you want it to do in the exact path that you envisioned. it's damn near empowering. great shafts...my only gripe is the size of the butt on the flighted shafted. They were a little too thick for my liking at 1st..but you get used to it after a few sessions with them.

I went from Rifle 6.0's to the Project X (non-flighted) 6.0, the project X run a little stiffer but I love them. I wish I had gone with a 6.5 because my ball flight has gotten a little higher but I just can't complain because these shafts are much more consistent at impact and the feel is incredible.

I'd definitely recommend them to anyone.

I played the S400's for about 4 years before I switched to the Project X's. What a difference! The shafts are much heavier than DG's, but I like the feel of a heavier club. I only reccommend the Proj. X shafts to someone who actually NEEDS them. If your game is single digit or better, go for it. I really wouldn't reccomend them for someone who has a handicap of 8+.

I have PX 5.0 in my Mizuno's. The 5.0 in PX is a 5.5 in a rifle, they are approx 1/2 flex stiffer. The TT Black Golds are very good shafts, little persnickidy, you need to find someone who has been to the TT Black Gold training session IMO. KB tour shafts by FST have been getting very good reviews. Nothing wrong with the DG 300's when fitted correctly. There are more, but thats good for now. IMO, probably the most important thing is that whichever shaft you get, get them fitted to you and your swing.

Project X shafts are actually lighter than DG shafts. PX6.0 is 125 DG S300 is 130 S400 134 and PX 6.5 is 125 also. Slightly variable though.

They feel much more consistant and I feel like I can "load" then better. I probably hit the ball slightly higher, personally not much though. I noticed no discrepinsy in distance. Much better accuracy overall with the PX.

Not sure if this helps, but i went from callaway x-forged irons with project x 6.0. For me they ballooned a lot and were inconsistent and were short on distance.

i went to the titleist z blades with dg-S300 shafts. they are so much better for me. consistent, long, and great ball flight.

I used to have TM RAC LTs with Rifle flighted 6.0. I now have switched to MP-67s with PX 5.5.

The balance is amazing with this head and shaft combo, they feel solid and very in control during the swing. They are the non-flighted and I think at times they can spin and balloon a little more then I would like. If you hit a high ball anyways this is going to make them balloon up a bit, especially if you play an iron that has some other get it in the air features. You may want to go with the flex that is a half higher to help keep the ball down.

Here is my knowledge of the Project X shaft:

The project X is stepless, which in the end will dampen vibration slightly more than the Dynamic Gold, a stepped shaft.

AS far as stiffness, this is how some of the Dynamic gold shafts measure out on th Rifle Scale-

ss=soft-stepped (putting a 7 iron shaft in an 8 iron)
ssx2=soft-stepped twice
hs=hard-stepped (putting an 8 iron shaft in a 7)

300ss = 5.5FCM
DGS300 = 5.8FCM
DGS300hs = 6.1FCM

PX5.5ss = 5.8FCM
PX5.5 = 6.0FCM
PX5.5hs = 6.2FCM

PX6.0ss = 6.3FCM
PX6.0 = 6.5FCM
PX6.0hs = 6.7FCM

DGX100ssx2 = 6.2FCM
DGX100ss = 6.5FCM
DGX100 = 6.8FCM
DGX100hs = 7.1FCM

As you can see, the Project X tends to measure out little bit stiffer than labeled. So when you order a 6.0 you will most likely get a shaft that measure somewhere from 6.2 up to almost 6.5.

As far as the launch compared to the Dynamic Gold, the Project X launches about 0.5* higher, but spins roughly 200rpm less due to a stiffer tip design.

So if and when you get fitted for Project X shafts, make sure that the shaft you get actually measures out at the number you need.

yesterday I tried the px's and the dynamic gold's side by side in titleist ap1's and I really couldn't tell much of a difference in feel. But the px's look cooler though.
