i no they practice at a golf club but where. are they members of a club or seomthing or do they just pracitce were ever. im sure they all dont have driving ranges in there back yards i no tiger has a putting green

PROS practice at private country clubs, if you watch the golf channel and they are talking about lessons from the pros where they play courses, they are most likely playing their home country club, hope this helped :)

thats true they play at country clubs but you'll find that if a bunch of them live in the same area they will more than likely all have memberships at the same golf course like Lake Nona in Orlando. This is one of the most popular - the Tavistock cup on the golf channel

I believe another Pro recently did that at Torrey Pines or somewhere to practice for a tournament. Can't remember who it was though...*stupid brain*

Duffy Waldorf is a member at my club, but has rarely been there lately.
Charlie Wi has used our putting green.
Shigeki Maruyama's coach teaches at Angeles National (public)

I does come down to they are PGA pros, they can go wherever they want. Typically somewhere that has good practice facilities whether that's a public or private course. Just depends on what part of the world they find themselves in at a particular time. And who they know there.

A lot of the guys back in England and on the European Tour are actually members of local courses but as many have already mentioned, they will rarely be seen there apart from maybe on corporate occasions. Private country clubs which are 'high class' are where they will be seen practicing, so it is sometimes hard to see the amount of dedication a pro really puts in!

Um, no need to get rude, Alex B was 100% right, spell check your posts before submitting them, every one else writes properly, so should you.

And in answer to the question, I think pro's usually practise at the host course of the current even, or their local driving ranges, although I know Ernie Else went to a quiet club (Queens wood I think) during the HSBC World Matchplay last year in order to test new equipment on a range that was not as busy.

I'm sorry to be the second jerk about this, but people are more inclined to answer questions that they have an easier time reading. It will actually help you to get more responses to future questions if you take the half a minute to type our entire words and do a brief spell-check. My browser underlines words in these boxes that appear misspelled and I can right-click to get spelling suggestions.

For what it's worth, I typed like you did when I started on online forums - back on AOL, when I was nine years old. For reference, this is before AOL users could access Usenet. I was told to shape up quickly, and I did so. As a side effect, my writing grades went up in school. I somehow got into honors English for middle school. Finally, like it or not, people will - subconsciously at the very least - judge you by how you write (and speak, although we don't witness that over the internet). It's a good habit to be in overall.

First, I agree with the spelling and grammar statements beyond words I can actually express. I have personally been on the Internet proper (not AOL) for over 20 years and I am not yet 30. If you want to be perceived as someone with something to contribute, you must blend in, which means spelling and grammar are absolutely essential. Microsoft Word is not the authority on grammar nor spelling and as such you must rise above the requirements of a tool for your communcations or you become no better than the tool in question and its shortcomings.

Now, as for answering the question - the pros practice generally practice at private courses in my experieince. I have seen Jimmy Walker and Cameron Beckman at my home course, both on the driving range and playing in the group in front of me (this was prior to the Sony.) Now with that said, it is not unusual for them to go disappear on a public course and play. Further, a lot of courses have a form of "developmental" range pass that allows anyone to obtaing a range pass for a fixed fee a year and utilize the facilities as much as they want. Thus, you often will find up and coming pros at the better practice facilities that offer this feature, which typically means a public facility as must private courses offer range balls, etc. as a "perk" of the membership. (Few thousand bucks and the range balls come for free!)

Neudi and Tristan have it right (I think). It seems from my reading that the successful guys live in walled communities with golf courses so exclusive you and I would not get past the gates.

At golf clubs!

A number of Pros (Els, Darren Clarke, McGinley, Howell, Bjorn etc.) in UK are members at Queenwood, Surrey UK - it is very private, has great facilities. Some play and practice at Sunningdale and that is not untypical in the UK - most have an association with a club.

I am sure that in the US they must be members of private members clubs - didn't Woods used to practice at Isleworth along with the other guys who live there.

When I was an undergrad (early 21st century), I remember finding old Usenet posts by a professor whose class I was taking at the time. I was looking because he had mentioned in the previous lecture about how search engines were bringing forward old, long-forgotten messages with people's names attached. Quite amazing.

But yeah, internet's been around for a while, although it wasn't anywhere near as common or mainstream as it is today.

      Is This Club Blatantly Sandbagging?

      I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
