Ok so I am in the market for a new set of irons and am getting stumped with all the options, so I was wondering what you all think might be a good fit for me. I am 23 years old, 5'9" and 180 lbs and I can generate a good amount of club head speed with my swing, but majority of my shots have a fair amount of fade to them. I play about 3 or 4 times a month and am looking for a solid used set that will help lower my handicap. I have had my eye on a set of Ping G5s but I can't seem to decide.

Any opinions?

An old set of blades and wooden woods, so you can suffer for a few years like I did starting out. Seriously it depends on your goals, if you want to become very good eventually, or just want to play recreationally you have different criteria. The clubs already mentioned. G-5 more for recreational, I-5 someone better or looking to get better.

I totally agree with getting I5's if you want to start improving your game. I started with I5's at about a 20 handicap or so. I JUST switched to a more blade style iron after 2 solid years with the Pings. You cant go wrong with the I5's. GREAT IRONS.

Thanks for all the input, I am definitely looking to improve my game as much as possible, and really want something that is going to help me do that. I will definitely look into the I5's as they seem to be a common recommendation

not too overwhelm you with options but try
cleveland cg-golds
taylormade r7's
callaway x-20's
and the ping i5's or g10's are definitely a feasible option

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
