Friday I had the time to go hit some square drivers and I thought I would share my experiances here...

Adams Insight XTD a3
retails for $299... for the money this one would be my choice. I tried the 9.5* with a stiff Aldila DVS 55 gram shaft. I really liked this club. The shaft was pretty good feeling, tip was moderately stiff, not quite as stiff as the Proto, but it didn't feel like a whip either. Trajectory was very nice, and very consistent. I tried to hit a few on the heel and toe and they were very straight, with a slight loss of distance. This club will hit the ball straight. It was a toss up between this and the Callaway for feel, but if someone held a gun to my head I would give the nod to the Callaway, but only by a hair. When I tried to work the ball, I could, but not as much as a more traditional head. The looks of this club at address are nice... you don't really notice the square head. I think that it had the best look of the three.

Callaway FT-i
retails for $499... this was a great club. I tried the 9.5* model which has a 0.5* open face in the draw model. It had the Fujikura Speeder 686 shaft in a stiff flex. This shaft felt nice, I always knew where the clubhead was (as I did in the Adams). This shaft was also fairly tip stiff, but not boardy, overall a good feel. This was the most workable of the three, I could move the ball with fair predictability. The head looks good, and doesn't take too long to get used to. The only bad thing about this club was the price and the lack of shaft options. Some shots hit high on the face would get a little high on me. Heel and toe hits were forgiving, slight loss of distance. Overall I think this was a pretty consistent club.

Nike SasQuatch Sumo2
retails for $399... jury is still out on this one. I tried the 9.5* with the Dianama shaft. The shaft was too soft in the tip for me. My shots did a little ballooning and I felt as though I lost my connection with the clubhead. They offer this club with two other shaft options... V2 and Aldila Proto, and both are probably much better. This club hits the ball straight though. More difficult to work the ballthan the other two. Also, the noise is not bothersome (although it usually isn't for me). Not a bad club, but would need to try ina different shaft.

Overall
For $299 you can't beat the Adams, on many levels I liked it better than the Callaway, but both clubs are very close performance wise. I don't work the ball much off the tee, so I am considering one of these, if I don't loose distance (launch monitor will tell me). They are very forgiving, and the Adams and Callaway both look good, and most importantly feel good.

Also side note... tried the TM CGB Max... hit mild to severe draw and nothing else. Looks bad to me. Very light, but just couldn't hit anything but a right to left shot... NOT for me.

    • What brand is it? Are there actually items you can't buy online? If you want the Chinese stuff. I'd look closer to home first, even if they are also made in China. Some of the Temu stuff is stupid cheap and I'm not buying it.
    • For anyone in Europe, it seems they still got grips in stock here:  Puregrips   I may just order some myself. Having used only the Pure Pros I'm tempted to order DTX.
    • Day 323: another light day. Just putted on my mat for a bit. Working on start line and a good stroke.
    • Day 143 - Made some swings working on shallow hands in the backswing, a good weight shift, and more hip turn in the downswing.
    • Day 46: Really struggled today, maybe some fatigue from a long weekend with lots of yard work, family time, and two early rounds of golf. I just could not find the ball at all with full swings. Slow, fast, super slow, medium speed, it didn't matter. I was hitting all sorts of terrible shots; chunks, shanks, tops, pulls, pushes, basically every miss was a possibility. Stopped after about 20 balls and hit the mental reset and changed course to "still head" fundamental practice while making easy swings. Hit the ball well doing this. Stuck with it for about 15 balls, and then did a little pitching and chipping practice.
