Got my first lesson in over the weekend since playing again and it was great. This first lesson was a swing evaluation to see where I'm at, my tendencies, etc, etc. When I go back he is going to have me hit while recording data on a flight-scope so that will be fun and informative! I learned a lot about the cause and effect of the things I'm doing and I'm just pleased over-all with the whole experience!

Currently will be working on a stronger grip, aligning my shoulders to my target line (I was really, really open to my target line with my shoulders), releasing through the ball and finishing strong to feel that full follow through. It's amazing how a few simple things can impact a golf shot!

Hopefully that swing thought works for you, but there's a chance that it might not.

Yeah it was working for me fine during the lesson. It was one of those things I kinda forgot about from my previous lessons like 10 years ago. I also get in trouble when my tempo gets fast, big thing for me right now is slowing down and getting that club square through impact. If I get too fast and leave it all open we are going to be out to the right in Narnia.

Share some detail on what you mean by "releasing through the ball," @ShawnSum.

It can mean different things to different people. I'm curious what you're talking about with this in your case.

Slowing down what?

Everything. I have a tendency to get real quick with the tempo of my swing.

For me it's a feeling of releasing the energy of the club through the ball and really finishing strong rather than coming up out of my swing where everything looks like it stops for a split second (at-least that's what it looked like when I took some video of the swing). Maybe the better word would be rotating through the ball rather than releasing through the ball.

Probably.

When most people say "release" they talk about the hands and forearms rolling over each other.

    • I think you're saying it's preposterous to think that the areas on this club are anything like what's shown here: 30mm toward the toe or heel loses only 5% distance? Highly, highly doubtful. So a guy who hits the ball there and normally hits the ball about 250… will hit it instead about 238. By missing the sweet spot by about 1.2 inches? Highly, highly doubtful. Heck, the high heel barely gets into the red, and orange is only "up to" 10%! @M2R, I've never heard of "Ask Golf Nut" but I'm dubious of his claims in the video and really, really dubious of what's on his site: "Why AskGolfNut Is the Most Trusted Data-Driven Golf Resource". Hmmmmmm.
