Alright, I know next to nothing on this topic, but had a random thought. My understanding that “muscle memory” is a lot about neural pathways. And this muscle memory allows a practiced golfer to fire his/her muscles in the right way to swing a golf club.

Say in X years in the future, biotech evolves in such a way that electrodes (or w/e tech) can stimulate muscles very precisely. In this future, could you take any fully abled body off the street, wire him/her up, and have them hit a perfect golf swing?

I know they do muscle electrode stimuli for certain rehabs already. And with amazing advancements in biotech in recent years, nothing seems as absurd as it used to.

I can think of a bunch of derivative thoughts/concepts on golf that this would impact.

I had a very respected neurosurgeon once tell me, (while we were golfing) that muscle memory is nothing more than the muscles knowing what to do when the brain tells them to do it.

There are alot of muscles involved in the golf swing, and through repetition (training) these muscles get better at being told what to do. The muscles don't remember squat. They just react as much as they can, to the amount of control the brain has over them.

Imo, in the future, instead of wiring up someone to swing better, I think the first thing to happen will be advanced equipment technology (clubs, balls, and cups) that will allow golfers to get more out their swings. Joe Dummy off the street will rent a par, or better score. This even if there still even such a thing as par in golf.

Wiring up someone to hit pure, accurate, 300 yard drives is a feasible, far in the future possibility. They already have mechanical robots that hit balls long, and accurate.

Heck, future technology may even make the putter an extinct, museum piece. Who knows.

I'm hoping this winter for some muscle forgettery.

Hopefully by spring 2020, it will be like 2019 never even happened.
