I am in the Greens Keeper for a small nine hole golf course. I have no experience other than YouTube videos forms and literature. I have a question about verticutting. Do I need to top dress after I verticut the greens? Right now our greens still have a lot of sand on from last year’s top dress. I was wondering if I could just go ahead and verticut all the greens without top dressing?

I would recommend you talk with some local golf course superintendents. Every region is a bit different, and if you still have sand on top of the grass, I would think that alone is an issue…?

This site has a few, but not many, superintendents. It caters to the golfer.

When I was on a course, bermuda tifdwarf,, we never top dressed after verticutting, only after aerifying. If you still have excess sand and feel you need to verticut I’d consider dragging them with heavy carpet of a mat to smooth it out after verticutting

In western WA, mostly poa and some bent, we don’t have to topdress after a verticut but we do most of the time. It depends on thatch and sand content already in greens.
