The OP reminds me of that guy at the golf (fill in the blank) that judges people on how they look rather than how they play..which sadly a lot of golfers are. Also a reason people don't get into golf. Play and be happy with what you have. Sorry to chime in so late but I just finshed my lessons and ready to get at it.

I don't look at people's golf bag when we step up to the first tee. After a few holes I'll glance over and think, "I wonder what kind of equipment is producing this kind of _____fill in the blank____ golf that I'm witnessing today".

Actually, I can make a contrary argument that carrying your clubs is actually an unfair advantage....
Let's say that carrying your clubs does in fact increase your score. In most competitions from high level club championships to typical charity tournaments, all the golfers are either riding or walking. Therefore, if you got your handicap index by walking, it will be much easier to shoot lower than your handicap when you are riding in a cart compared to all of the golfers that got their handicap index riding a cart. It works the same way if all of the golfers are required to walk in the tournament.

So what does this prove? Not sure. I think I forgot the original question.

Riding or walking doesn't make a ton of difference to me. I'll screw up the same shots regardless.

Also, iron covers used during a round do bother me for some reason. I don't care about putting them on when putting your clubs in the trunk or something but I find something very disturbing about someone who has the patience to remove an iron cover, hit the club, wipe off the club, and put the iron cover back on. Oddly enough, I don't have the same aversion to driver/hybrid/or FW covers. Maybe it's because iron covers look so much like little slippers or something. Who knows.

Its not the arrow its the indian.

What you use doesn't really matter, it's how you use it and what results you get out of it.

I would much rather be swinging a wooden stick and hitting par than to be finding my balls out of the bushes with expensive clubs.

That being said, some people get value out of just having brand name clubs, and so there's something to be said about that. But for those who don't care I think clones are a great way to go. I've tried some of gigagolf stuff myself and greatly enjoy their products.

Dude, you have issues. First off, who says this? I don't know what golf world you live in, but I honestly think you are the only person out there who actually believes this. Good luck drumming up support for that argument. Pull carts are the last thing I've ever heard anyone complain about.

Now, with all my respect. I think it is a complete nonsense arguing if someone should or should not use a pull cart because of taking advantage. Should you use a caddie instead?? would that be better?? have the caddie give you the appropiate yardage?? I think everyone should be able to play within the rules of golf without other having to judge them, either if they play Clones, use iron covers or use pull carts. I'd rather see a young guy use a pull cart than driving a cart, but that's my bias and I don't think I'm right.

I don't have a problem with people playing clones because most people who play golf want to get the most value for their money and I totally understand that. However, I do have this nagging concern that the manufacturers of such clubs are freeloading on the research and development of the major manufacturers and possibly even violating their patent rights. I don't wish to support that effort and for that reason I haver never owned and never will own clones. Again, I have no problem with anyone who owns or wishes to play clones. This is purely my own individual preference.

And that whole cart issue? Whatever floats your boat...

I respect your opinion and I see where you're coming from. Normally I wouldnt get caught with anything booteg or clone because I think it is wrong to steal another companies R&D; and pump out inferior chaeper product and use their name and looks as well.
Here are the "clones" in my bag. They say P2G on the bottom and look like the Ping G2 fairway woods. Nowhere do they say Ping though. I thought they were until I got them home. Here's the kicker. They were $10 each (slightly used) and I needed fairway woods that day and I was broke and THEY ARE MONEY. So I'm keeping em. I mean I hit these things damn near perfect all the time.
I do still feel funny having knock offs or whatever you want to call them in my bag but I work em.
All that being said you sound like a typical british prick. I dont have iron covers or a pushcart but I'm not a big enough d*ck to care if someone else does.
I would tell you to go get laid and relax but you probably have a lot of trouble in that department.
And you probably cant go to the pub without catching a beating so stay miserable.

P.S. My friends got a couple clones or look alieks or whatever in his bag and everytime I tell him I know someone who plays well he tells me to set up a game for money. Come on out to Hawaii and see if he can't kick your ass with his clones.

WTF? Where did that come from man? The poster above specifically concluded with "Again, I have no problem with anyone who owns or wishes to play clones. This is purely my own individual preference." Why attack him personally?

I think that was directed at the original poster.

Thanks. I didn't think my comment merited a personal attack either. I only hope he was talking about the OP as darkhunter139 believes...especially because I'm not British.

Was directed at the OP. Ruari. Who has since been banned. I apologize for my troll like behavior. I'm losing it. Slammin Sam is right and they steal money from the original developers of the clubs.

My ZR1s from pinemeadow just came in today, they look real nice! About to go over to the driving range and try them out and play some chip and putt.

Never made it to chip and putt but went and hit a large bucket at the range. I love these clubs they are a lot better then the 30 year old clubs I was using before :D

I never used a driver with a big head like this before and was able to hit it much further and straighter more often. Irons are great too, feel very nice and I was able to add some distance on all of those as well. Still need to work on my game a lot though :)

I'm new at this and have just joined today

. I am an American living in South East Asia so therefore I understand clone clubs. Clone clubs and copies are totally a different situation. I ordered a set of Ping Anser, a Scotty Cameron putter, and a Ping driver and three wood directly from China.

Everything in the world was wrong with them, they shaft was made in Bangladesh and the head was made in China and they went as far to say they were assembled in the USA. They were the most inferior clubs I have ever purchased in my life and had to change each and every club. The golf balls that they sell are once again copies and do not react like a true pro V1.

I guess you can say I have first hand experience at Chinese made clubs. Clones are not bad clubs depending on the specs. Copies I would strongly recommend staying away from them.

To answer some of the questions of the previous people I ordered a Ping belly putter from the USA and

the head was made in China . Additional grips that I have purchased through golf Smith were made in Taiwan. I have had no problems with the putter nor the grips.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
