I was out last week and a solo guy in front of me threw two clubs on the first hole. Makes me think he may not really enjoy the sport that much, or he was having a very bad day.

Can say I remember ever throwing a club but I sure have thought about it.

Would love to hear what others have to say about this.

Such a simple question and deserves a simple answer. YES!

Everytime I do it which is not that often I hate myself and regret it.
Last year I whipped my putter and it landed on a cart path and dinged it up really good. Now that I have a Scotty I better not do that again.

I have never thrown a club, tossed one or two a couple of feet towards the cart after a pitch so I wouldn't forget it, but never thrown a club in anger. I watched enough people damage clubs to know better, even saw one guy get one stuck in a tree, then use another club to get the original club down, would have been funny if he got them both stuck in the tree. Another time I had some schmuck I got paired up with throw one after a missed putt that flew right over my head, he would have caught the beating of a lifetime for it if he wasn't so apologetic about it, and not from me but my 6'4" 240 pound playing partner

Never tossed one. More of a drop-kick right next to me, or pushed the club hard into my bag. Besides, why ruin them when they cost so much...

I try to hold myself back.. it only would get my head out of the game and I would play horribly the rest of the round... 18th hole maybe

I voted no, answering the spirit of the question but not the letter of the question.

I holed out from the sand once back in January and tried to do a baton twirl with my gap wedge, which I had used in the bunker. I hit myself in the head, thankfully with the grip end. I think you meant throwing in anger, which I've never been tempted to do. I started playing as a graduate student, so I know the importance of money. I don't want to have to pay for a re-shafting or a new club! The only times I've seen people throw clubs were cart players throwing to their cart-mate who forgot a club back at the cart. "Hey man, throw me my 5-iron." For those who do throw clubs: please throw them forward in the fairway so we don't have to wait for you to go back to get them!

I once threw my driver 60 odd yards down the fairway in anger, and the shaft snapped in two, I was a bit younger then though

I voted yes. I haven't been playing too long but I did throw a 5 iron about a month ago. It landed in the fairway next to the one I was playing. I'm very thankful no one was there. I will never throw another club again.

Mike

Unfortunately I have thrown clubs on two occaisions.

Once was when I was early 20's and playing with my mom who talked in my backswing for probably the 8th time that day... and I was already playing poorly. It's no excuse, but it happended... I launched it about 40 yards up the fairway into the right hand whispy rough... so no damage. I swore I would never do it again...

Then last year I had a relapse. I was playing with just my wife, and I was desperately trying to play well (on the verge of being single digits for first time). I bombed a drive to about 80 yds out. Hit my wedge fat, just short of deep bunker... hit flop shot into bunker... hit bunker shot over green (too much ball)... skulled chip into bunker when I should have returned to cart for a different club... threw that frigging 60* wedge about 20 yards in a low to the ground spiraly type toss into the rough... then got up and down from the sand for a 7.

Both times I felt stupid, and I don't intend to do it again, but I play a lot of golf and generally act very well, only occaisionally muttering a damnit, or what the hell was that. I can't promise to never throw another, but I will never be one of those guys who seems to always play pissed, or regularly ruins others rounds by his bad temprament.

Oh... one other time I threw a Ping demo about 50 yards out into a lake... but that was accidental... rain, wet hands, hitting shag ball into lake, golf team laughing at me retrieving club, etc.

My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

Bobby Jones threw clubs, even hit a woman at a tournament and was almost booted from the amateur circuit. The story is that he never threw another club again.

I have thrown a few in frustration when playing alone. Even lost my grip on one in the rain. It went further than the ball.

Never threw one, but I watched my father-in-law break the head off his 6 iron. Not out of anger, Just a normal hit. It flew nearly as far as the ball.

It was hilarious.

On my tombstone: "If this is the worst thing that ever happens to me, I'm doing just fine!"

yes i have and worse... i usually get most angry with my short game, so I'll take a wedge and slam it into the ground toe first. NEVER in the fairway, and I alway repair that "divot", but thats my bad tantrum habit.

    • So far, it's looking pretty even.  The first weekend (the one in May) is probably out, but the others all seem to work in general.  I'll give it until the end of a week for votes and then pick one.
    • Day 181 - 2025-03-30 Got a little work in while the kids were playing their final round(s). Then drove for awhile. I-95 sucks.
    • Day 8: 3/30/25 After some poor putting yesterday I worked on some distance control drills today along with putting through 50 mm gates.
    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
