It has been quite a while since I last logged onto this forum. Just wanted to check in and see what is going on. I have since moved from Dallas to the Phoenix area and was curious if there are any get togethers with the Phoenix group.

Welcome back. The weather should likely suit you more in Phoenix. It can get cold in Dallas sometimes!

Hello all,

I am new to the Stafford, VA area and was curious who else in here is in that area. Would love to meet up and play some golf. I am currently in Phoenix, but will be out there starting March 11.

I'm a bit north of Stafford, and I know we have a few more members in the northern Virginia area.  But Stafford?  That's not exactly a big destination, what takes you there?

Commutable to Arlington/Crystal City area, home with some acreage under $700,000, and good schools for the kids. I only have to commute once per week, so hopping on the VRE makes life easy.

Looks like we're going to probably be in the Fredericksburg area. Have you played the Gauntlet? Looks like a good track,  and membership is cheap!

I've never played the Gauntlet.  I've played Augustine, which is pretty close to the Gauntlet, and is a very solid course.

I played Meadows Farm last weekend.  Played the Waterfall/Longest combo.  Very fun golf course.

Might try Lee's Hill this weekend.

Lee’s Hill is fine, much tighter course than MF

The Gauntlet, eh of a course. Too many short and weird holes, plus conditions we're terrible last time I was there, although it has been a while.

Augustine has a good layout, but last time I was there, the conditions were not so great either.  I'd join Fawn Lake Country Club or drive to Richmond, far better courses around there. Mattaponi Springs is a nice course.

Took your advice after playing the courses in the area and joined Fawn Lake. Great golf course!

Fawn Lake is a good one, nice.

    • He said: “Yeah. So tech wise and numbers wise, look, I've had the same concerns, I guess, just from I hadn't obviously played a match,” McIlroy said Tuesday at Pebble Beach Golf Links, where he is preparing for his first PGA Tour event of the season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. “I went in there on Wednesday, and I brought two other launch monitors with me. I brought my GCQuad, I brought my TrackMan. Obviously, hitting balls into the screen and every number was virtually identical. That put my concerns to bed, which was really good. I hit balls in there for 90 minutes.” I wonder, though, if the lights were different, or something like that caused some of the issues. Again, if you tell Tiger it's 100 yards, he's gonna hit it 100 yards, not 130. Even if he's blindfolded.

    • As usual, this is difficult to answer without seeing your swing. So, my first suggestion is to start a My Swing Thread.  After that, my next best guess is that you fade (slice) your driver more than your 3-wood.  I once played with a guy who had such a glancing blow with his driver that I could out drive him with my 6 iron.  Get with a good instructor and learn to hit your driver properly. Even with 93 mph swing speed you should be able to hit your driver 210-230.
    • I recently returned to golf and got a Swing Caddy SC300i. It has confirmed what I have suspected for some time - I hit my 3 wood as far as my driver. This is backed up by similar swing speeds of 93 MPH. I have had 6 months off golf and exercise, so my speed is down a bit on what it was. Driver is 12 degrees, D1, Cobra 70g stiff shaft. 3 wood is 15 degrees, D0, Cleveland Gold 65g stiff shaft. The 3 wood feels great to me and flies straight. The driver feels dead to me and tends to slice. A local pro thinks the shafts are both a little on the soft side of stiff (which suits for me). The only difference I can see is the driver total weight is 340 grams and the 3 wood is 320 grams. My question is what is going on? Surely 20 grams should not slow my driver down to the same swing speed as my 3 wood?
