Yes-Good Choice..The AP1's look amazing..What I love most is the tungsten cartridge that Titleist incorporated into the AP1's and AP2's...I want to try them out soo much--just because they look like a forgiving forged blade--i can't imagine impact in how good they would feel-just because most of the weight is located at the bottom of the clubface at address. May I ask what shafts are in them..Conratulations and Best Wishes

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

the shafts are the dynamic gold stiff high launch shafts theyre really nice and the weighting is amazing its like hitting a marshmallow when you hit it dead center....... other than that if its a off center hit its still very playable the 2 wedges are cool and they to tend to play 1 club stronger cause of the loft but im not complaining at all

Their not forged though are they?

Great sticks though. I'm not a Titleist fan, but I love their look.

I demoed both the AP1's and AP2's and TBO I didnt notice much of a difference between them. I play 695cb's usually and compared with the ap's they seemed like they balloned the ball more for me. But ive heard a rumor if you put rifle shafts on any of the AP models they are dynamite.

Well since I saw this thread I had to respond. To sum it up quickly, the AP1's piss me off. I'll explain:

I pretty well decided I'm going to get new irons sometime this season. After hitting club after club after club at my local Golf Galaxy this winter, and very slowly eliminating clubs, I had pretty much settled on the Callaway X-20's. It was a painstaking process, as a lot of you know (it takes me forever to make a decision). But I got wrapped up in some home renovation projects and just didn't pull the trigger on actually purchasing them.

Now flash back a couple of weeks ago. Decent day here and a couple of buddy's call me to play one Sunday afternoon. Hey, you get out when you can this time of year. As luck would have it, one of my friends had stopped by Golf Galaxy that morning and bought a brand new set of AP 1's. It was the first set my local Golf Galaxy had sold.

So...needless to say, I had to try them out for a couple of shots. Hit them maybe 3-4 times (course was pretty much empty, so I just dropped another ball after hitting my shot. No, I didn't post the score ).

Basically, the feeling I got was oh...my...God. I absolutely loved them. The feel, the look...everything. Now granted, it was only a few swings, but it pissed me off because now I have to go hit them more. All that research and painstaking decision making down the toilet!

So while I can't comment too in depth obviously, my first and initial reaction was fantastic club.

you are correct, they are a new club and my edwin watts dident have them hittable, so i took a chance and bought them and i couldent be happier.... the feel is amazing even on off center hits and the weighting is really nice it just glides thru the grass..... and the power is very predictable

Can you now, or after you hit them again, give a more detailed comparison between them and the X-20s. Reason I ask is I'm pretty much in the exact same boat, but I haven't hit the AP1s yet.

Well to be fair, I couldn't give you an honest comparison between the two, mainly because I hit the AP's on the course (true conditions) and the X-20's the only place I've hit them were in Golf Galaxy, off a mat, into a simulator. So to me anyway, it's tough to compare. People may disagree with me but I'm a firm believer in not making a final decision until I can play them in "real world" conditions. That's the main reason I didn't get the X-20's yet-wanted to play them first...or at least go to a place that has an outdoor grass facility. But I'll keep you posted unless someone else does before me.

First off, I must say the AP1's actually look pretty nice in person and the pictures don't really do them justice (the AP2's look amazing but that is a bit off topic ).

I have the AP1's sitting in my office right now and will be doing a review of them at some point in April (Erik is playing the AP2's right now for a review as well). For some additional feedback on the AP1's (and the rest of the 2008 lineup), you can check out here .

Thanks for the link, I'm sure I saw the article before, but I don't think I gave it a full look over. I really can't wait to hit the AP1s because I am, as Erik describes, a golf who needs the help, but wants to improve so am not looking for an absolute no-brainer club =)

110% right you dont really know what they are until your in real conditions..... my cousin who i golf with every other day has callaway x20 tours..... i was all set to buy tours just like his until i seen the ap1's in a magazine and said ill wait......im glad i did cause they are better to me IMO...... the callaways had a solid feel to them weighting was nice, whats good for some i've seen is they want instant feed back on what they did wrong, if thats what you want go with the x20s......if i hit a off center hit with my ap1's its not as harsh of feedback as the x20s are but more subtle dont get me wrong you know if you hit it wrong just not as it is with the x20's but all in all they are both good clubs...... the only reason i decided to get the ap1's are cause the way they felt in my hands and i just pulled the trigger on them so...... yes you really dont know what a club is untill you hit it off the teebox and play it in the wind or in the sand or in the rough..... some times you just have to go for it

I'm sorry, but they look like they should be in a bin at Big-5 Sports. If Nike put those clubs out, people would trash on them. I do however hope you shot well with them!

I'm new here so first off hello. I'm currently planning on buying a new set of irons and Ive been hitting the demo AP1 and AP2 6 irons that just came in. I use to play blades years ago, back in the early 90's, but quit playing for several years and just took the game back up 3 years ago. I currently have Calloway X-18's and just seem to hit the ball higher than I like and have a hard time working the ball. The AP1's are alittle more forgiving but I like the look of the AP2's slightly better. My handicap is currently at 8, but iron play is definatly the week part of my game.

I'm currently leaning toward the AP1's, but it's high 40's and wet here and may change my mind when I get a chance to hit something when I'm not wearing three layers of clothing and hitting off soft wet grass. I do seem to hit the AP1's slightly farther, I'm not real long and tend to hit the ball high.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
