I have tried several things that would allow me to see the ball at address and also to see distance. The only thing that really works for me are contacts. Having an astigmatism throws a wrench into the mix, and when I use glasses, the ground starts to get distorted. It's like glasses alter the grading of the turf. With contacts, I don't have any of these issues and can see both distance and club length away.

This. I got contacts the next day after I first tried to play golf with glasses. The astigmatism is corrected to a degree, but not completely.

I have to use single vision lenses only for golf. However, my distance vision lenses do not leave the ball blurry at address.  If your distance vision prescription leaves the ball blurry at address, you might need progressives or bifocals specifically for golf.  I can’t imagine that your reading prescription would leave you with a clear view at 6 feet.  But I’m no optometrist.

I play with progressive lenses.  I think I noticed the first time or two, but I am used to it now.  It is possible that it is not ideal, I suppose, but I don't notice it to be a problem.  The progressives do take some time to adjust to, but your brain is pretty good at figuring things out.

Lost vision in left eye have been wearing single vision glasses, now a cataract has been growing on good eye but doesn't seem to bother straight ahead vision. Can't seem to hit ball lately ,tried bifocals today and swing is back to normal. I wonder if when I look down with regular glasses the growing cataract is distorting my vision. A sports eye doctor out there ?

My suggestion is to get a pair that has the focal distance for about 6 feet. It's in between computer distance and TV. It's not ideal for distance, but you'll at least be able to see the ball. Your optometrist might have to be talked into this.

    • I’d go with the Titleist if you liked the look of the blades but were suffering with distance. They should be a little more forgiving than a full blade and still retain some workability. Also remember to consider the shafts each have as this will be a big contributor to how they feel. Clemsonfan is right though… get fit or spend a bit of time on a launch monitor 🤙
    • Day 28: 2026.01.30 Managed to make time for a few swings out back today. Need a proper bit of range time this weekend.
    • Day 30, 1/30.  Six minutes this morning hitting a few more range balls, indoors, off a mat, into the net.  Did this before leaving the house.

    • Hi All my New Year’s resolution was to start playing golf again. I’ve caught the bug and am really enjoying hitting balls at a couple of my local ranges.looking forward to getting back out on courses in the spring. Based in the UK and 38 years old, I’ve been playing since I was a kid. Best handicap I’ve held is 2 in my mid 20s. Over the past 10 years I’ve played once or twice a year, sometimes with friends or for work. Could shoot 4-5 over, but just as easily shoot 15-20 over. I’ve moved to South Wales and am very lucky to be near some world class links courses, which gives me even more motivation to get playing again! I will start looking for a local coach in my area when I have more time to invest, but I recalled scouring this forum a few years ago and finding some good tips and advice so wanted to give it a try to see if there were any glaring issues I could fix in the meantime!  A few swings below… one from 1st week Jan and one from today. I have fixed my P1 takeaway to my liking and am now working on what I see as pretty severe early extension & hip thrust. Also terrible hip rotation. I’d like confirmation that this is indeed a problem and and suggestions on a few good drills. Thanks for reading 🙂 I've been Playing Golf for: 30+ years My current handicap index or average score is: 10ish over My typical ball flight is: mid The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: push right with irons, hooks and push with driver!  Videos:
