Was viewing "Posture is Almost the Same for All Clubs" Instructional Droplet by @iacas.  Setup for irons understandable, vert. arm drop, grip club and clubhead tells you where to be.

I'm having a hard time with getting a consistent setup distance from ball with driver. Sometimes feel jammed up on swing, other times feel reaching.

Droplet says "The only thing that really changes much is the angle at which your arms hang - a bit farther out for driver."   What is a bit farther?

I'm looking for a check/routine to get me a repeatable setup distance. What do you all do?

I would say for irons, your arms hang straight down to slightly out towards the ball.

For a driver, your arms hang out more over your toes.

I would hold the club with both hands gripping the club. Then just let them hang down and notice were they are at. Then just adjust them towards or away from your body. Just to get a feel for how the arms hang.

General guidelines:

  • Wedges: 0° (vertical)
  • Mid-Iron: 4-5° out
  • Driver: 9-10° out

That's the problem...my "feel" isn't repeatable. With same "feel", sometimes I feel jammed up on swing, other times I feel like I'm reaching.

+/-1/2" strike on face is a big difference. Way back when I first started playing, I would lay the butt of grip on my thigh to kind of get an idea where I was.

Looking for for something more mechanical like that.

There's got to be some degree of athleticism and stuff to it, too. You can put a Tour player 6" too far from the ball and he's still going to hit it pretty damn good.
