  1. Whats the difference in the 905r, 905s, and the 905t?  All 400cc heads but what else?

Titleist says (emphasis added is my own):

The 905S™ is a Tour-proven deep face driver that provides a flatter initial launch angle and reduced spin. Due to its smaller front-to-back size, the CG is closer to the face to promote a more boring trajectory. The deep face combined with a low CG provide reduced spin making the 905S ideal for the higher speed or higher spin player who needs more trajectory and shot control.

The 905T™ is a Tour-proven larger profile driver that provides an optimal combination of ball speed, launch and spin for longer tee shots with a penetrating downrange trajectory. Due to its larger front-to-back profile and resulting increased dynamic loft, the 905T is a versatile driver with high launch and moderate to low spin characteristics. The better player will prefer its optimum ball flight, while the aspiring player will benefit from the increased size and playability.

The 905R™ is a Tour-proven 460cc pear shaped titanium driver with shallow face for players seeking the ultimate combination of ball speed, launch angle, spin and forgiveness. The 905R has a 35% larger sweet spot than the 905T and 905S.

How do they compare to the Callaway Great Big Bertha I already own? Would it be worth a 100 bucks to upgrade to the Titleist?

Can you test the two clubs side by side.  Then it would be easier.  Because shaft and head specs can make a difference.  Also, what are your criteria for a better driver.  I would assume dispersion and length

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)
  • Aidia Z-009 Putter
  • Inesis Tour 900 golf ball

No, haven't bought one yet. That is what I am trying to figure out before I spend the money. Is it worth 100 bucks if it doesn't improve my game.  My Bertha is a little touchy as where I hit the face. But is the Titleist easier to deal with. I'm too old to go buying a new driver so 2nd swing is the best I can do.

Only buy a used driver without testing if you know your shaft/head specs. If it is wrong for your swing, it might not be your swing causing problems, rather the setup being wrong for you.  And that also applies to your existing driver.

I have found that Titleist is the driver for me quite a while ago.  When I found my 905T out of a bargain club can (since it dates to around 2004) for $50, there was no hesitation. and it is my player today for the last couple years.  It is an absolute hammer.  Straight as an arrow.  I have been hunting for a 460 Titleist driver just curious of what the bigger more modern head might offer but I can be really patient as this 905T smokes.  Aldila NV 65R shaft with tour wrap Lamkin fits my 65yo swing.  6' 220lbs. I'm not one to spend for a new No1 either.

I don't know if it'll improve your game but it'll make you confident off the tee.

Burr, that is what I am looking for. I just want to know where the ball is going for sure.

    • Day 250 4-29 Getting chest through with speed on downswing and wrist arch. Also worked on some moving the pelvis slightly away in the backswing. Feel like im going too fast and long, looks like it on the recordings too.
    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
