So, I’ve joined a club again and started playing regularly again after a gap of about 10 years.

I’m thoroughly enjoying it!😀😀 Generally shooting between 85 and 90 but my short game needs lots of work. Hey new handicap is 17.4.

The question I have though is about how much better if at all new clubs are.

I have a ping G25 driver, Nicklaus claw 3 wood, Wilson 3 hybrid, mizuno flihi 4 and 5 hybrid and yonex fms irons. I’m hitting them all okay on my good shots.

for me though it’s all about forgiveness, and extra 20 yards off the tee would be useful as well.

so I guess my clubs are all around 8-10 years old. In terms of achieving a bit more distance off tee and more forgiveness with the others. Would more modern clubs make a sufficient difference to make it worthwhile?

they could help, but the only way for you to tell is to bring your clubs to a shop and test them versus other new clubs. The G25 was a decent driver. I’ve played the Mizuno FliHi and they are also good. I have not tried the other clubs though.

Go to a local golf shop and try stuff out on a good launch monitor against your own clubs. Some places let you do it for free. Others may charge by the hour. As mentioned above, the driver is a good one, so may not see much improvement there. However, some of the newer drivers may give you more ball speed and lower spin, so you may find some better drivers. Generally, for me, the only clubs that get changed out are my driver and wedges because I’m quite fond of everything else in my bag, but even my driver is a few generations old.

    • Day 21 - Good session with driver and 6i. Hitting real golf balls is quite a bit different from the foam balls, still getting used to that change.
    • There are so many videos comparing and contrasting everything that I am both overwhelmed and more than a bit skeptical. Your comments above are much more valuable than hours of you-tube videos. Generally speaking, I’d much prefer to read something that someone took the time and trouble to write (such as your comments) than a bunch of videos, or worse, meaningless reviews that seem like they are all cut and paste selections of the same script. I’m more of a RTFM type than a watcher of “instructional” videos. By way of explanation, I don’t watch TV either.  So thanks - I’ll take that under advisement. I have an H3 that I bought for $10 that I’ve been carrying around but not sure why. Seems like a cool club, but I just don’t really know what to do with it.
    • I was using the window as a mirror. Just trying to be a more aware of the feels for a better backswing. Trying to not be as closed from A1 to A2. Then not letting the club head flip inside. What I was feeling was a pressure my right wrist, and like the palm of my right hand was pushing upward against the grip of the club. My right hand was the underside of the swing path.  Going to play around with this a bit more. It looked pretty decent with mirror/window work. Just wanted to jot it down.
    • Day 4: 3/26/25 Par4Success workout followed by putting through 50 mm gates.
    • Day 249: did a stack putting session and then worked on 5 foot putts for a bit.
