She had the baby over at my parents house this morning while I was out messing around. They got to talking about my 30th birthday in July and my parents asked what I wanted. She told them, "he has been talking about this putter, but he said he would never buy one for himself...its called a Scott or something, or maybe it is made by a guy named Scott". They got to googling and found the Scotty Cameron website. My dad was sold when he saw they could get my name or initials stamped on it too. They told her to figure out which one I wanted and let them know. Its gotta be the Newport 2 from what I have been ableto put my hands on.

I owe my wife! It should go real well with the new irons she wants to get me...I must be livin' right right now.

Still not convinced getting married is worth it. :P Congrats man, which irons you getting?

Im in love with the AP2's. I have hit them twice and they fit the eye good and I feel confident with them in my hand. They are played by a pro I know and another buddy who is a 2 handicap. Also I figure it is a pretty good endorsement when the pro I take lessons from, who is repped by Cobra, told me to look at them over any club she knew of right now.

saw your other thread just AFTER i posted. Great to hear that the ap2s are so nice! congrats. post a review of the scotty when you get it man. I am using the agsi tm daytona 1 and love it but am curious about the new newport2

Wow! The wife endorses new AP2's and a new Scotty. Hold on tight and keep this woman. The force is strong with her. An action this nice should be rewarded with something that involves diamonds.

Considering her diamond earings she got in Novemeber(daughter born) cost more than my first car...wait...AND second car she should be happy. Not to mention I handed her $675 worth of Nordstroms gift cards on Friday...long story, but they didnt cost me a dime. I have managed to find my way into her good graces.

In all honesty I have no business with a $300 putter but my parents said they want to get me something that means something and that I will have forever...seems to fit the bill just fine.

Those AP2s do look very nice. I guess a pro repped by Cobra is just about the same as being repped by Titleist. Owned by the same parent organization anyway. Anyway, awesome gift and sweet irons. I just ordered some new Srixon irons for myself yesterday, waiting is tough. Should definitely hold on to that wife you have. All I got as a gift recently was three new Vokeys since I paid for the new irons.

Congrats again and enjoy the new putter when you get it!

My wife was the one who got me into golf.

She got me my first driver (Taylormade r7 425) as my birthday gift when we were dating.
After marriage she got me my current putter, irons and the new Ping G10 series... I just bought balls, golf bag and wedges for myself in my current set up... I think it's because she is a golfer as well...

But of course in return I got her a Taylormade fairwaywood, iron set and Odyssey putter... So I guess we are even... hehehe.

    • All great info. Thanks for the reply.
    • Yea, it's more complicated than your high school projectile motion equations.  I am thinking it could increase under certain conditions. A gust of wind blowing in the same direction as the spin, causing more high and low pressure on the ball in a certain way that it increases the spin?  It has zero vertical velocity at its apex. So, it is all velocity caused by gravity for the vertical component.  Yea, landing angle is a big thing.  It is parabolic. Your apex is 90 yards in the air. A 30-yard elevated green is 1/3rd that height. At the apex, your vertical descent angle is zero, it should be horizontal. So, you are going from zero theta to let's say 45 degrees. Even if it was linear, let's say you're landing angle is close to 30 degrees. That is less than a driver and probably is significant.  Yea, it depends on how you hit it. Especially for downhill shots. If you hit a flighted shot, it might react more like a normal shot because of the lower launch and lower apex relative to your position. Versus a normal shot might come in at like 70 degrees, instead of 45 degrees.

    • Spin will decay slightly over time, but not by a lot. The horizontal portion of the velocity will also decay due to air resistance. The vertical component will be increasing since the ball is accelerating due to gravity (albeit that the spin is creating lift, which will counteract that some). Neither of those has much of an impact of how the ball will react. The biggest difference is the vertical land angle. The angle theta prime (not sure how to show that on here) will be shallower than theta. That means the ball will stop faster at theta than at theta prime. The other thing is because there is still a horizontal component to the velocity, it will carry less far at theta prime than at theta.  The effects of those two things work in opposite directions. Which one "wins" will depend on ground conditions, ball flight, spin, any necessary carry distances, etc. Fortunately the margins are fairly small so you can wing it with enough experience. The calculation of the carry distance change is what your range finder estimates when you have slope turned on.
    • So, I was looking at this image and wondered what the best way is to play your approach to an elevated green versus a lowered green. Is the spin and velocity profile at θ' much different than at θ? I don't know the physics of it but to my wee brain, it would seem that at θ' the spin would be higher but velocity lower. At θ the spin would seem to be lower but velocity higher since it has more time to fall from its peak where it would be zero. Even the image below is off visually since we know the arc of the ball flight isn't consistent throughout.    It's okay if you tell me I'm overthinking this. 😂
