Gross and Net Four Ball Prizes

In your experience is there a big enough gap between the gross and net scores that the gross team winning net is pretty rare?

Usually, so, because the gross is usually the lower handicap players, who really generally get bombed in four-ball (or "best ball") games with handicappers.

It is rare, but it happens.  There are a couple ways to spread the wealth, you could require each team to decide whether they're playing for a gross prize or a net prize.  Or you could allow every team to be eligible for all prizes, but allow a team to win only one.   You'd determine the order in which winning teams are selected, for instance:  Low gross, then low net, then second gross, second net, etc.  You might want to look at making the total purse for gross lower than the total available for net, in most larger fields there are only a small number of teams who have a realistic chance of winning a gross prize.

So 20 people I would guess since you are saying fourballs. We pay 30% of the field, so in this instance we would pay 1 gross and 2 net depending on the spread of the handicaps. If the handicap spread isn't too bad we might just pay all gross or all net. Remember too, you shouldn't give 100% of the handicap in a fourball competition, the USGA suggests no more than 90%.
