I'm considering replacing my woods this summer when I am back in the UK, and was looking at getting a new driver, with a 3-wood and possibly a hybrid

My thoughts were initially the TM Burner. Have also seen the Callaway Big Bertha 2007. This is the rough price range I am looking at.

Now, last night I stumbled upon a TM R7 460, which is the driver I used to have and loved, at a good price in the UK. It got me thinking, a 'matching set' of woods would be nice, as I had an idea it would introduce some consistency in feel/weight etc, but I know I can hit the R7 long, straight and consistent.

Just want to see who all has bought a matching set, and who plays with a mix of woods.

If you went with an R7 460 - what is a good match to it for 3 wood and hybrid, or does it matter at all (I can only find R7 5 and 7 woods for sale in the UK as its last of the line)

Cheers
Mike

No...

I had the Ping G10 3W first and was considering the G10 driver but i found the burner easier to hit and more pleasing at address (prolly making it easier to hit)

It is all about what you can hit the best. We don't get payed enormous sponsorship deals to play one certain brand. I get caught up in looking at matching clubs but when it comes down to it, it is simply what you can produce with.

No - not at all . . .

I went to get fitted for the "woods" portion of my set at Hotstix in Scottsdale. They suggest components for you that match best with your swing speed, spin rate, swing tempo and skill level etc. . . A big component of fitting is the shaft you get as well and the frequency they build it to, so don't get so caught up in the heads on the shaft. I am quite certain a perfectly fit shaft would tempt you to buy a head you previously did not like.

Good Luck!

Well I got a Superquad, but the TM Burner just feels too light with the stock shaft.

I hit a Cleveland Hi Bore 3 wood and it felt fantastic. Have seen these at a good price, so toying with a 3+ & 5 or a 3+ & a hybrid.

There is definitely a 3 wood of some sort going into the bag in the next month. My 5 wood works well, which is why I think I will stick with the old faithful rather than replacing it with a different 5 wood or hybrid...

Sensibility and my wallet are telling me to just go with a 3 wood.

I also play a mixed bag for sure. Adams driver currently, SS750 3wood, T.Made 3I Hybrid/rescue (draw), CER 3C irons, Cleveland wedges, and a Dunlop Loco putter.

I could absolutely play a bag full of T.Made. I miss my burner irons, should've never sold them. But, these clubs are currently bagged because I like them all.

Yes I have a Adams Redline RPM Dual 460D driver, a Adams Redline RPM Tour 14.5 degree 3 wood, and a Adams Redline RPM 5 wood. My 3 hybrid is a Adams A3OS, but my 4 hybrid is a Snake Eyes.

I voted yes because they are. But I'm not agreeing with the second part which said "I'd have it no other way" because it doesn't matter to me. My driver and woods match because my aunt gave them to me. Oh and just to let you know they're mens clubs. She doesn't play with women's clubs.

    • To flog this subject even further, if that's even possible, this article from Golf Monthly just appeared today in one of my news feeds. Written by a golf writer in the UK who I never heard of, he's basically saying that there should be only 3-5 rounds from the most recent 20 that should count towards the average and only competitive rounds should count. He claims the erratic scorers would have less of an advantage than they do now. He makes a lot of references to "club golfers" in the UK being the ones who are mostly dissatisfied. https://share.google/qmZZBEoJvOxHxJGil  In my experience with my league where we have golfers with indexes ranging from 5 to 40, looking at the weekly results from the past two years, I can detect no pattern that would substantiate the claim that the current system gives an unfair advantage to either erratic golfers (aren't we all?) or higher handicappers. Apparently though, at least in the UK, this seems to be "a thing."
