Newbie to the forum here.

I was hoping some of you guys could help me out a little bit. I seem to judge the break on my putts really well, but I struggle getting the proper speed. One shot will go three feet past the hole and the next come up a foot short.

Could any of you guys give me some tips on what I can do to lower my putts per round.

Thanks in advance.

For most pendulum putting strokes, the right hand determines the speed of the putt. For this reason, I would like to give you a drill that is used by David Toms.

Just toss some balls at the hole with you right hand, focusing on distance control. How hard your right hand throws the ball is roughly how hard your right hand needs to stroke the ball in order to achieve the proper speed.

You may be decellerating the clubface through impact..Through adequate changes in modifications in the speed of the backswing to the blade may need proper adjustment..Hence i would tell you to try to practice a slow backswing and forthright a faster motion through the ball--this would add some consistency to your putts--best of luck

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

This is exactly what I do. If I am playing for practice I always will roll a ball at the hole, not to see the break, but more to feel how much I need to go on my stroke. You must be a long lost brother Crafty......

I use a drill where i wedge a golf ball between my right forearm (right above the wrist) and the shaft and make putts like this. It help me take my arms out and makes it seem as if im swinging the club with just my shoulders and back muscles.

watching the maters, i think it was faldo who said that a certain player, cant remember who, practiced putting in the dark or with his eyes shut, and you get a good feel for how well and firm you hit the putt. i haven't tried this and dont know if it delivers results, just something you could try.

I got some lessons from a guy named Gary Battersby back in the day. He used to have me putt balls with my eyes shut, then guess where they went. When I opened my eyes, I would then see what really happened. You could do this in many different ways, but the idea is to develop a feel, specifically a direct link between the brain and the rest of your body. I did not practice near as much as I should, but this really helped at the time.

One thing I do for distance is vary my stance width depending upon how far I am from hole. Longer putt-wider stance. Seems to be working well lately as I am making a lot of putts.

This season I've been using the putting methods in this video:

    • That was a good watch. When I started working on pelvis in the backswing. I thought, this sounds contradictory to those leg straightening threads on the site. Erik has already done a correction. Then the last lesson we went more down the route of feeling the right knee gains flex. It doesn’t, but the feeling keeps my knee position in a good range. Also, I just realized how much extra work my right hip needed to do to stabilize the body with the proper weight shift. Those glute and hip stabilizers got worked. 🤣 I wish this evolution in the golf instruction happened 20 years ago! 😭

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: squirt to the right due to to much arm not enough turn. • The first issue Erik spoke about is something we worked on for my swing during both GEARS sessions. GEARS was showing my pelvis center moving towards the ball during the back swing. I wasn’t the 4” guy though! This forced me to correct on the downswing to give myself space. My hip rotation was to high as well. We corrected it by first getting the weight off my heels in my stance and getting my posture correct. Then the feel was shifting back into my right hip at a 45 degree angle. This kept my pelvis center from moving towards the ball at the start of the backswing. I also didn’t sway back as much as I felt I did because of the angle I was shifting. Feel Ain’t Real. The cool thing about GEARS is as you work on something you can see the exact (Real) change happening. On video, it is much harder to spot this issue because of the 2D nature of filming. But I know what to look for now. Sadly, I was hurt all last year and most of this year so I really haven’t been able to work on it much. I did do a lot of backswing work though.
