Did anyone else see the story in Golfweek about the PGA Tour Superstore World Amateur taking away the title from the apparent winner?

They took two things into account it sounds like: a USGA probabality scale and the fact he hadn't posted in two months.

But his answer was pretty cool: "It's a good feeling to shoot a couple of days of good scores, but I understand where they're coming from. I'll try to go back down next year and do it again."

Even though I suck...my first thought was to grab all those cards and get them posted. My second thought...what the heck is a probability scale? Isn't it up to each club to monitor what someone posts? And wouldn't it be the club be the one to question in an event like this, since it's sanctioned?

The World Amateur is very strict about handicaps given the scale of the event. Golf World did an article on it a couple months back referrring to room 222. It's the room where the officials work out of and if a player gets called there it's not a good thing.

Take a look around their website http://www.worldamgolf.com/ for more info

If you're a 22-handicap and your 10 best of your last 20 scores average out to, say, an 85, then the likelihood of you shooting 75 on any given day is very, very, very small. Like less than 1/100 percent or so... Know what I mean?

It's like a steady D student suddenly acing a test without even coming to class for the past two months. If you were a teacher, you'd be a bit suspicious.

Very interesting isn't it? Wow! I guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself when I post a +4 net score or blow a chance on the last four holes to shoot a -5 net score. Just the other day I was standing on the 14th hole at -1 for the round (gross). I was scared to death, and I proceeded to shoot +10 over the next 5 holes to shoot an 81. It makes me realize that the odds were I was supposed to crash and burn.

Damn I know how that feels... I still haven't broken 40 for 9 or 80 for 18... It's definitely the mental game because i've gotten so close this past season. Hopefully I can continue to sharpen my mental game before the season ends (which is something I am NOT NOT NOT looking forward to)

For years my quest was to break 90. Nothing in life was more important yet seemed so unattainable to me. 91's and 92's up the wazoo but I just couldn't cut those last few strokes off.

One "magical" day, with no expectations other than to have a good time with my buddies, I shot 87. With nothing more than the knowledge that I could actually do it, I managed another five rounds that season below 90. Barely, in some cases, but, darn it, they were below 90! (Most weren't, by the way. Those were seen as cases of "bad play" and not cases of not having enough game. A new mental approach for me. I was an 80's golfer who occasionally had a bad round. A helluva feeling even if it was "self-imposed". ) My best 9-hole round? A 37 on a par-35. (13 putts. Another "magical" day. I'd like that touch back again... ) 18 holes? An 80 on a par-73. Dang, dang, dang... (Never to be repeated but, that's okay.) When it comes, you'll tell yourself that it was there all along... Rick

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
